Delisted Paddy McCartin

Has been named at Centre Half forward . This might bring him into he game a bit more . It also helps that Taylor and Henderson are both injured. This could be a big chance for Paddy to get some confidence. I’m glad the Saints are sticking with him as that’s the best way for him to improve imo. I feel he just needs a good game to make him believe he belongs in the top grade .

Sorry if it's been written already. Just heard on SEN Paddy had his car knicked in Geelong, then got back to Melbourne to find his house had been broken into.

Double teamed again?

Nah, apparently it's a diabetic thing. Affects your energy levels, more likely to get broken into in different cities at the same time, dizziness, difficulty making friends. Terrible disease apparently.
Would never have happened to that Petracca fella!

I blame Trout for picking a bloke who's clearly unable to protect his valuable assets.

Surely they test for this at the combine

TUESDAY was a bizarre day at St Kilda Football Club.

It began with off-field drama following Paddy McCartin around before the news that Koby Stevens would be out “indefinitely” with delayed concussion.

Having woken up in Geelong alongside his girlfriend Lucy Brownless, McCartin walked outside to see his car had been stolen.

The duo notified the police and hired a car to return to their house in Armadale.
But it went from bad to worse when they arrived home to see their house had been broken into and trashed.
It’s understood drawers were left open but nothing substantial was stolen. Neither Brownless or McCartin were hurt and nor did they see the criminals.

McCartin came into the club, trained and was in good spirits despite his rough morning.

The police are investigating both incidents and it is unknown if they are linked.

Impressed against the Giants with 3 goals and 1 behind against a top side . Looked very good at times in this match . First time in his career so far where he has been able to string 5 games together . He looked better than he has all year so far . Hopefully it’s a sign of things to come . Gave Phil Davis a headache all day .

Had 11 disposals, 7 marks and kicked 1 goal . But was played out of position again by Richo . After a good game at full forward against the Giants , he was played at chf for some reason and even found himself in defence in the last quarter . He was recruited as a full forward so play him there.

Glad they seem to be continuing with Paddy for the game against Melbourne and hopefully the rest of the season as that’s the only way for him to mature . People often forget he’s only played 20 - 30 games . This has been his first run of more than 5 games in a row in his career . Hopefully his injury days are behind him .

ST KILDA spearhead Paddy McCartin has escaped another suspected concussion, but is in doubt for next Saturday night's clash against Fremantle after suffering whiplash.

McCartin was involved in an accidental head clash with Melbourne defender Neville Jetta midway through the second quarter of the Saints' 39-point loss at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

The former No.1 draft pick had suffered six separate concussions since 2014 before Sunday's game and the incident sparked fears he had suffered yet another episode.

St Kilda coach Alan Richardson told reporters after the game McCartin had passed a concussion test, but had suffered whiplash in the clash with Jetta that eventually forced him out of the match midway through the final term.

"From a concussion perspective, he's all clear. In fact, his cog-state test at half-time was as good as it's been. Paddy's had a couple (of concussions) as we know, so that was positive," Richardson said.

McCartin came back on the ground early in the third term, but his day ended prematurely midway through the final quarter.

"He got pretty bad whiplash and so that was the reason he didn't come back on the ground. He's pretty sore in the neck," Richardson said.

Asked whether he expected McCartin would be fit to take on the Dockers at Optus Stadium, Richardson said: "We'll have to wait and see how he pulls up."

The Saints coach also confirmed McCartin, who has type one diabetes, also spent time off the ground during the first term because his blood sugar levels were high.

But Richardson said this was the first occasion the forward had experienced problems with his diabetes for "a long time".

"The doctors and Paddy are right on top of the way that they manage that," Richardson said.

Paddy McCartin will miss the Saints’ trip to Perth, while Josh Bruce and Darren Minchington have overcome some major hurdles in their rehab programs.

McCartin sat out the latter stages of Sunday’s clash with Melbourne after a second knock during the game saw the key forward develop some mild “fogginess”.

The 22-year-old successfully passed a concussion test at halftime after an earlier clash of heads with Melbourne’s Neville Jetta.

St Kilda’s Head Physiotherapist Andrew Wallis tonight confirmed McCartin wouldn’t be selected to face Fremantle at Optus Stadium on Saturday night with the club keen to take all precautions with the young forward.

“The second knock left him feeling a bit nauseous and a bit foggy, and given it was late in the game, we took a conservative approach,” Wallis said.

“With the travel to Perth, he’ll miss this week and then we’ll update fans later.”

Saint Paddy McCartin has suffered his seventh concussion.

A SEVENTH concussion since 2014 will sideline luckless St Kilda forward Paddy McCartin for Saturday's clash against Fremantle, after he was originally diagnosed with whiplash.

There is no guarantee he will return on Saturday week against Collingwood.

McCartin, 22, passed the concussion test after a nasty head clash with Melbourne defender Neville Jetta in the second term but a later incident with James Harmes saw him suffer whiplash.

Coach Alan Richardson said after that game McCartin was "all clear" from a concussion perspective.

McCartin has recovered from the neck soreness from that incident but has experienced nausea and fogginess.

While he trained in the gym on Thursday and did some work with the football, the No.1 selection from the 2014 NAB AFL Draft was kept away from the main group.

"The (original) diagnosis was a mild form of whiplash and since then, he hasn't quite been right," coach Alan Richardson told reporters at Melbourne airport on Friday.

"The docs will do whatever they need to make sure that he's right to go.

"He's done a little bit of light training. He did a little bit yesterday and was feeling OK. My understanding is he's still got a little bit of work to do with the medicos to give the all-clear to get back out.

"We're hoping it might just be this week that he misses. It might be a couple. We'll just wait and see how he responds."

McCartin suffered his last concussion in June 2017 and did not return for the rest of the season.

His run of seven straight games to start the season was the longest of his 29-match career.

"Often when you get whiplash it can cause concussion-like issues. There's no doubt he's pulled up a little bit groggy," Richardson said.
