My son arrives in Perth this afternoon & he wants to take me out to dinner tonight, only thing is, I haven't been to restaurants for ages. :(

So, what are some good places, not too expensive to go.
He wanted an all you can eat place, but the only 2 I know are Sizzlers, (revolting food) & Miss Maud's, haven't been there for over 10 years, so no idea what they are like now.

He hates Seaford & Asian food, but likes Italian.

Suggestions please. :)

PS. in the Perth metro area only, not Meekatharra. :D

I'm not sure that you'll find many all you can eat Italian restaurants...and Smorgy's hasn't found its way to WA yet!

If your preference is for chain-store type food, then I think La Porchetta has opened in WA. I know that there is a store in Belmont somewhere. Affordable Italian, huge selection.

However, if you want to try something a little classier, try James St Northbridge, Fremantle, Hillarys (north of the river) the GrapeVine (edgewater), Scarborough, Claremont/Cottesloe.

And that's about the extend of my knowledge as I have not lived in Perth for over two years now :(

Well they do have both Italian and Seafood on their menu. It would do for me.

otherwise La Porchettas

Except for Pizza hut, I'm not sure there's such a thing as an all you can eat italian restaraunt. My personal favorite place for italian is Cafe Rustica in northbridge- I've never had a bad meal there, and their dessert cakes... (drools on keyboard)

Jetty's at Hillary's is smorgasboard, won several gold plate awards so it's been proven. The Italian Cafe isn't bad there either. Or that full on Italian place in Subi ... can't think of the name of it.

Actually mantis I have to apologise about the soap box board comment. When I first saw the thread I had a quick glance and saw that it was about dogs so didn't really bother to read the post. I just read it properly and you're right. It is a disgrace.

fantastico is pretty good in subi on rokeby road. not cheap but not too expensive either. its good quality italian with wood fried pizza etc etc. plus the shops and night life is pretty good aswell is Subi.

Woodpeckers in Subiaco is great for wood fire pizzas - very pricey though.

I'd try somewhere in Subiaco or Leederville - lots of good choices there for reasonable prices.

Ended up going to Cafe Amareto (sp), cnr Main & Hutton Sts, Ossie Park.

My ex & I used to go there a lot, forgot how good it was, YUM. only thing is, I also forgot how popular they are & you usually have to book in advance, but we were lucky they had one table left outside, I prefer to eat out there in summer anyway.

Forgot who suggested Jetty's, yep that is a great place, we go there every Xmas for our work lunch, but Donovan doesn't like
it. :(

Then after went to the Paddo, tired as today though, so I declined joining my son at the Sunset Concert tonight at Mt Lawley, so I am able to just Veg out here.

Thanks for the suggestions though folks, have made a note of a lot of them, (well the serious ones) that I didn't know about. :D
