Everytime the ball is near Dea he goes to ground

Petterd always does the team thing, his tap to Gordan in Adelaide is the type of different element he brings to the team that puts him above players like Dea in our current best 22

At the end of the day all Ricky Petterd can do is be Ricky Petterd.
It's amusing when people get angry at him.
He's as honest as the day is long and just presents himself in a professional manner.
If he gets picked he gets picked.
This notion of Hardwick preferring battlers is complete fantasy.
As rightly pointed out if and when the numbers push him out he'll be out.
But he's far from our biggest issue and doesn't go pointing a gun at selectors heads to pick him.
He's currently best 22 and leaves nothing behind.
Time for blokes to Grab their chance if they are any good.
They currently aren't.

Do you think if he was dropped and opened up an opportunity for an up and coming like a McDonough, be able to perform well enough in the 2s to get back in? I agree with most it is harsh he's got plenty of ticker but we need class now and by next season's end if he is still among best 22 then we have not taken steps forward and that's provided he plays the same as in the past. I would love to see him just do a Dan Jackson and step up again especially now that he should be primed at 26 27

Petterd did go back plenty of times and completely carved them up in the twos.
He's one of those in between types .
He is what he is and that's about 18-22 on the list at the minute and consistently hits his ceiling.
Honest is the word.

Pettard is best 22 till we are a genuine top 4 side and premiership
Challenger .
Will give his all and make our younger players work harder to get a game and therefore better players
We have plenty of younger players with more ability just not the hunger .
Important player !
He is also the best and most committed number 13 we 've had for a long time !

I love Ricky P, he's not the most talented guy going around and no one pretends that he is, but he gives his everything for the jumper every time he steps onto the field and thats a quality that should be held almost above all others. He's limited but plays his role and was well and truly deserving of his spot in the 22 last season, played some outstanding games. Deserves to stay in the 22 until someone pushes him out, and guys like Dea aren't close to him at the moment, no point trying to get rid of him while he consistently performs better than those who would replace him.

And this is the problem we have when playing players such as Newman, Grigg, Thomas etc. They have to be kicked out of the team by the juniors coming thru.

Ricky Petterd is in our best 22 until another player strings together enough consistent performances in the VFL to push him out of the side.

Petterd's biggest advantage is his versatility. He can play anywhere on the ground and he always puts in his best effort to perform his role in the team to the best of his ability. Combine this with his defensive pressure, courage and his underrated disposal efficiency and it starts to show what a valuable role player he is to the team.

Consistently one of the most realistic views on the board :thumbsu:

Mcdonough is more valuable to the team even with half the possessions. Skill and composure thanks

McDonough had a run in the senior team earlier in the year and his skill and composure were questionable. If McDonough is really more valuable to the team than Petterd he should be able to force Petterd out of the team with several consistent performances in the VFL.

Dea and Hunt are easily better. They just aren't coaches favourites
Rubbish. Dea is absolutely Dimma's pet. Dimma LOVES him. He just hasn't come on like we all hoped. I'm first to admit that I was on the Dea train in his first couple of games but pretty certain he aint gonna make it now.

Ricky changed my opinion of him in 2014. Just love the determination and hard work. Until he is forced out of the team (and he is far from the first on the chopping block) I'm happy to see him in the 22.
