You could tell that after Collingwood hit the front that despite the relatively close margin we were never really a chance to win.

You'll never make an 'investition bankier' mate.
If you must expect to make money from sports betting, why bet on football with such slim odds when you can get a better return on 2-3 horses with an excellent chance?
If one wins you at the very least break even. If 2-3 win you walk out way ahead. If none win, you either had a couple of good runs for your money or you should give up wagering altogether.
