It rocked.

I went to the gig expecting the performance to be a little toned down and more demured than Divinyl gigs of old but I was wrong.

The band played a relentless brand of their rock and roll with all of the trademark Divinyls stage antics and some powerful singing from Chrissy, she really let go on a few songs which included "Elsie" "Boys In Town" "Guilotine Day", "Aint Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore" and "Make You Happy".

Their new material was fantastic to hear and fitted in seamlessly with their classics and live staples. "Dont Wanna Do This" was the first new song, catchy pop/rock that can still kick it with any other single released by an Aussie band this year. Another song "Asphysiated" takes on a darker tone with Mark getting a great sound out of his guitar.

Two great songs, track them down if you can because the album to be released next year should feature them and if the remainder of the songs are that good, what an album of new material to look forward to.

They were fantastic last night, which was good because The Church let me down.

solid rock show.
just solid IMO

the sound wasnt great at all.. aaall night realy. but when the divs hit the straps about 4 songs in they were pretty good.

looking back on it, i didnt get into madly cause of the crowd. blankets on the ground! its not a winery peoples,it was the age group there.

in a small indoor venue with no other bands except an opener would of made it a hell of alot better.

Theyre ****ing great.

Well written hits.

Thanks 4 the scoop MM.:thumbsu:

Yes it would have been much better had the performance not been a part of an all afternoon snooze/booze fest on Freo oval. Divinyls after a hiatus are still one of the best live acts going around and should have performed in the atmosphere they excel best in.

Little Birdy up to Chris Issak should have been one event and Divinyls another.

When all is said and done Im just glad Divinyls played for us.

Remiss of me not to have included the setlist from the Fremantle Oval gig.

As follows.....

Science Fiction
Pleasure and Pain (slower than the original record)
Only Lonely (dedicated to all the lonely girls out there)
Good Die Young (restarted 3 times due to drum sound problem)

Don't Wanna Do This (new song)
Hey Little Boy (crowd oooh oooh's)
Back To The Wall (superior to the version off Tempermental)
Asphyxiated (new song)
Guillotine Day (favourite from What A Life! rocked)

Elsie (highlight)
Sleeping Beauty (Chrissy sings to Mark, who wrote it)
Make Out Alright (crowd excitement builds)
Aint Gonna Eat Out My Heart
Boys In Town (powerful performance)

I Touch Myself (suprise suprise)
Make You Happy (we sure were)

How was Charlie Owen's playing?

Charlie Owen put in a good performance and played some solid rhythm and joined in with Mark McEntee on a few solos, especially on Make Out Alright. They didnt do Bless My Soul its Rock and Roll, the song they usually rock out on, in Perth.

At least The Church gave some interestingly bizzare between song dialogues :thumbsu:

Ah man, why didn't they come to Brisbane this tour? Has been about 18 years since I last saw them. Would have to be in my top 2-3 favourite bands of all time.

They scheduled a Gold Coast gig, I think its coming up.

No Siren, agreed, it wears you out just listening to it on the lp!

Nabbed tickets and went to see this at the Gold Coast Entertainment Centre last night.

First up, the Church. Steve Kilbey's random musings between songs are interesting enough but I was forced to remember why I wasn't really much of a fan 20 years ago. I need to go out and buy one of their albums to help me sleep. Mind numbingly dull and I was seriously tossing up whether to leave and come back after the interval. This was compounded when Kilbey does what 'creative' people like to do by singing 'Unguarded Moment' completely differently to the way it was originally done. 2 songs of theirs I like and he butchers one of them.

It wasn't just me either. I think they had about 3 diehard fans in the audience judging by the crowd response.

Now for the good part. My god, the Divinyls and Chrissie in particular have lost nothing over the years. Their sound is timeless and Chrissie belts them out as always with that unique timbre to her voice. She was in a chatting mood too and very humorous to boot, joking around about sleeping with the band and having to suck up to DJs to get the new song played.

The same set as the Fremantle gig with I touch Myself and Make U Happy the encore. Just when we were leaving, I was wondering why the house lights weren't up so hung around and half the crowd were treated to a second encore 'Bless My Soul, It's Rock N Roll'.

Plenty of pouting and posturing and connecting with the crowd by Chrissie. She really is the ultimate rock chick and very close to my all time favourite artist anywhere, anytime.

Yeah sounds similar to what Divinyls did in Freo, no second encore though. How good they perform, after such a long break is remarkable. It has been a long time between drinks in more ways that one.

How did you rate their new material? Did you pick up a free copy of the single?

I got the single yes.

Interesting to read that Chrissie has multiple schlerosis now. She sat a bit between songs and at one point said she couldn't get up. Thought it was part of the act until Mark and Charlie picked her up. She also walked like a hunchback during songs on occasion, again thought it part of her eccentric stage persona. She still comes across with the normal pouting and posturing so I really didn't notice it until I read it this morning.
