SUMMARY
Carlton continues to firm as a finals participant in 2009 with a workman-like performance earning a 20-point win over Richmond last week on the back of a come-from-behind victory over Fremantle in the west. The Swans look headed in the other direction with a 35-point loss to the Bombers making it five defeats out of the past six matches.
Brendan Fevola's nine goals were the highlight of last week's match, but the Swans are rarely heavily scored against so he'll have his work cut out to repeat the dose.
Rhyce Shaw had 29 possessions the last time these two met and he carries excellent form into this encounter after 30 against Essendon.
Jarrad McVeigh faces a fitness test for the Swans who would dearly love to have him in the line-up. Likewise for the Blues, Paul Bower has become an important defender and will have his knee assessed ahead of the match.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Eddie Betts (Carlton)
The forward has been out of the goals a bit of late, but still has 31 up to round 15 which is an excellent return for a player of his type. He works well with Fevola in trapping the ball inside 50 even when he's not kicking goals, but it might just be his turn this week.
Darren Jolly (Sydney Swans)
The Swans' big man has been in fine form for much of the season, but he just came off those heights a touch against the Bombers. The young Blues' ruck tandem of Matthew Kreuzer and Shaun Hampson has been doing nicely, but Paul Roos will still fancy he can gain an advantage in this area if Jolly is on song.
QUESTION MARKS
Will Heath Scotland and Nick Stevens play? The experienced pair must prove themselves on the training track in order to move out of Brett Ratten's doghouse.
Can the Swans summon one of their trademark efforts? Things aren't exactly going to plan for Roos, but write his team off at your peril.
WHO WILL WIN AND WHY
This is a game the Blues simply must win if they're fair dinkum about making the finals. They struggled against the lowly Tigers, but get a concession because it was on the back of a Perth road trip. The air is slowly seeping out of the Swans' season with just six wins in the bank with seven rounds to go, not to mention the untimely departure of Barry Hall.
The Swans always give you a tight, closely fought contest, but the Blues should be able to think their way through it and come away with the win.
PREDICTION
Carlton by 16 points
Hopefully the Blues will come away with a win on my birthday!

"Goddess"
but...when was the last time we won 3 in a row?
