This could suit us, given the negative relationship we have with the WAFC.

If its good enough for the All Blacks, could be good for us to consider!

Stipulation : I hate the WAFC

A Sydney-based private equity group says it has fielded interest from AFL clubs and believes there is no reason why private ownership cannot happen in the next five years.
David Gibson - a NSW Rugby administrator who last year partnered with former Macquarie banker Ben Carberry to establish Athlon Partners, a sports advisory group which also involves former Australian cricketer Shane Lee - believes the time is fast approaching for the AFL to again seriously consider private ownership.

Interesting article, it's on WA Today.
I don't think the current situation helps us, as the WAFC are concerned with their cashcow West Coast, and they don't really give a toss about Freo.
Private Equity would change that.
We'd be independently financed, and also wouldn't have to tell the WAFC what we are up to.
Only the AFL, so we would be more independent.
If I was Garlick, I'd be looking in to this!
Upset the applecart for a change

Private Equity is rich.
Then we don't have the WAFC controlling us, and telling the Toast what we are up to.
Kangaroos should look in to this as well, as they were private owned before by Bob Ansett.
This will be the future, whether we like it or not

I don't believe not for profit entities can be owned by individuals or groups.

But I think we can have a Fremantle Football Foundation owned by people that owns FFC.

I'd just prefer that to be members themselves - but I think the West Coast Eagles membership would be better placed to purchase ownership from the WAFC and if that happens there will be zero chance of Fremantle being sold.

I don't agree Taylor. West Coast have $60 million in cash, we don't.
Therefore we are $60 million cheaper than the Toast, plus their licence is worth more for the future earnings they can expect.
We are cheap now, and if the private equity did it right could turnaround our future very quickly
ie rehab and S & C, or a Coaching Director like Chocco or Leppa.
Melbourne clubs have a greater access to quality, we don't.
Im all for looking at PE, and I'm a member, which has cost me financially and worse, mentally.

I think West Coast have access to far more financial contributors. I'd estimate that the current casual supporter of West Coast is four to five times the number of casual Fremantle supporters. That person who doesn't watch the gave but has a smile and a fist pump finding out the Eagles won on Monday morning.

They might throw in $50 to buy the club with a clever marketing campaign.

Both Fremantle and West Coast are carrying both significant assets and "good will" earning expectations from the WAFC. So I agree that West Coast is the one they would least like to allow to leave, I just don't think we can motivate enough people to buy the club.

We'd still have to abide by the soft cap and other AFL rules though, they couldn't just come in and buy success Man City style.

Isn't soft cap overspending just "taxed" though?

So it would depend on how rich your owner was.

That's true, but as we've seen in soccer, not every rich owner is an Abramovich or Arab royal who treats their club as a personal plaything to throw unlimited money at.

Most are rich owners who want to use the clubs to get even more rich, and they don't do that by splashing any more cash than necessary.

I'm pretty sure the Fremantle Football Club is a company (rather than an incoporated body).

But in any event, what has real value is not the organisation but the license.

i dislike the idea, just because we'd inevitably end up being stuck with a shitty owner based on how luck seems to work at this club

Not going to happen.

WAFC own the Dockers and select 50% of the board.

While we are not the cash cow like the Eagles, the WAFC does get some revenue from us.

Plus, people like power and why would they give that up?

I wonder if Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny have any left over cash? Maybe after Wrexham win the premiership, they’ll have some cash to buy up Freo. Hmmmm…
