I have an 80gig ipod and i initially set up my itunes account with my work computer, which up till then was the only computer i'd ever downloaded music on to (illegally using limewire). A few months ago i got the home computer going and now i've started to do my downloading from itunes using only my home computer.

Now, the problem, when i try to sync my ipod at home it says an ipod can only sync with one library at a time. it asks do i want to sync with this (home) computer, if i click yes then it will erase all the ipod's memory and replace it with everything in my home computer's itunes library. I've tried authorising the home computer for my account and that works fine (you can have up to 5, currently i only have 2 those being work computer and home computer), but it doesn't change the fact i can't download purchases made using my home computer onto my ipod without erasing all the stuff i downloaded onto it from my work computer.

How can i fix this? Is there a way for me to download my home computer purchases onto my ipod without erasing anything?

I'm running all the current software, version 1.2.3 for the ipod and version 7.5.0.20 for itunes.

Any help will be much appreciated. :)

Not massive on ipods, but I think you just need to turn off the auto syncing feature.

Once you do that you can just drag and drop music onto your ipod manually. I do this all the time when i go to mates places and steal their itunes music onto my ipod. I've synced mine with several different computers this way.

Really, you should ahve a backup of your music anyway in case your ipod dies (it'll happen eventually). Get some ipod ripping software off the net, copy all your ipod music onto your home machine then just resync it. That way you'll have a backup of all your tunes.

How do i turn off the auto-sync'ing feature? I'm a dunce with this stuff so you're gunna have to explain to be dumbo-style....click tools scroll down etc.

I don't have my itunes here at work so i couldn't give you specifics right now.

Its pretty simple, you just need to plug the ipod in, then select options or preferences or something.

Look up syncing in the help file, does it step by step.

Thanks Mancey. I followed the help instructions and now i can drag songs onto my ipod. Only problem is the ipod screen is flashing do not disconnect and it's been doing it for over 5 minutes. Is this normal?

Now it's been doing it for nearly 15 mins. And only since i selected manual sync. Have i got a problem?
