Are there any out there?

I am about to hand in my application and start the process and need some insite into the application and profession.

Can anyone help?

Hard to get in. Harder than the police force.

Source : I'm in the CFA, asked a couple of the career fire fighters at my station.

Read the CFA website under career fire fighters to gain an understanding what the testing and requirements are (Although you most likely would of already)

Maybe drop into a local CFA or MFB station and ask if you can speak to one of the career fire fighters at station.

Metro Fire Fighting positions are the most sort after jobs in Australia.

Youll have to get a heavy vehicle license. Have to pass a beep test, a theory test, an examination and all that.

Dont be fooled though. They dont pick the fittest. They usually go for mature middle aged men with a good background.

If your a fit woman then you have a greater chance aswell.

are you joining the MFB or the CFA (career)?

with the MFB the 1st thing is sitting an examination which consists of mulitpe choice questions to test your maths, english, comprehension, mechanical enginnering basics, shapes and common sense. no point thinking more about it if you cant past the test.

you will need a good level of fitness, strength, along with a large enough lung capacity. you will also need to be mentally right for the job, not all people are made out to be firefighters. the selection process do favour older applicants because they usually have wiser heads. not to say that people out of high school cant do the job, but people with more life experiences usually can handle operational situations better.

I work as a paramedic in South Australia and we share a station with the firies, mate, if you're looking for a cruisy job become a firey. I can assure you GETTING the job is probably the easiest part of the job. It's frustrating walking back into the station at 4am after our 10th job of the evening knowing that they're asleep, and have been since 9pm without turning a wheel once. Best of luck.

Running into fires and risking yourself certainly sounds cruisy, where do I sign up?
