Ranking Richmonds MIDS

Impossible to rank. I say it is impossible because Coughlan has been injured a lot lately. Johnson is more a tagger. Tuck has played 2 years as a mature recruit and the rest are still "babies". After, 2007 I think we can rate it when players like Foley/Deledio/Polo take that next step forward and become regular starting midfielders.

Last-Johnson(Can't kick, can't handball. He also has a peanut head)

Johnson shouldn't be captain. Although at times he does some pretty courages stuff, he doesn't do enough to inspire the team, I think someone like Nathan Brown should be because he could inspire the team from coming back from a broken leg. Hopefully next year he will captain if he plays well this year

Spot on ;). Hopefully Johnson struggles to make the 22 next year and we trade him

You idiot.
He's a duel premiership player & Sugar just won our B&F.

May not be a showpony but he gets the job done & leads from the front and fortunately those in the know recognise his worth.

When fit I'd rank them as:

Coughlan
Johnson
Foley
Deledio
Tuck
Tambling

This is not ranking them on their overall ability this is purely on their midfield ability.

Coughlan, Tuck, Deledio, Raines, Johnson, Polo, Foley, Tivendale, Hyde, Tambling, White, Howat...

The last thing that Browny needs is the captaincy. A captain should only need to do the captains knock every now and then. The point that johnno does well is that he follows the game plan no matter what it is to a t that is a captains lot.

James hird also used to do this as did vossy but they were/are more spectacular players so they also appear more often. Johnno is a workman

I think any of the players below would do just a good a job, but with more skill/hardness. I think Polo or Newman would be great in the middle ;)

Polo-Perfect for the middle. Very toughm quick, great mark and very effective, gets alot of the ball himself. We have enough midsize defenders to cover him there
Newman-Reliable, Disciplined player for the middle with good skills. We have enough midsize defenders to cover him there
Hartigan-Tough nut, we need grunt in the middle desperately
Jackson-Good size, quick. Deserves a proper run. Tagging role would suit him and it will pay off in the future. I would have played himn as a tagger 2 years ago and left him there and the rewards woiuld come.
Hyde-Courageous, quick, disciplined, takes on the opposition, makes things happen
White-Quick, disciplined, enthusiast, takes a risk
Foley-Perfect role for him, but he'll probably play rover
Tuck-Tough nut, Honest, but he'll probably play ruck rover
Raines-Quick, Tough, but he'll probably play back pocket

Johnson is just there to fill in ;)

I'm just saying someone who actually does something to get the team playing good. Brown came back from a broken leg or maybe Couglan or Shane Tuck

i c somewhat of a contradiction here. how can u rank them on midfield ability yet have raines at 4 when he has never played in the midfield?

Well he has pushed up quite a few times to great effect. I am just ranking them based on how they would go in the midfield in my opinion if they were used there. Raines has all the attributes to make him a great midfielder, pace, booming kick, courage, and willingness to take opponents on. I was even going to put joel bowden in there.

I'd also like to see Joel in there, but it is very premature to compare Raines with someone like Johnson. Raines will be great though, I'm just not sure how great yet ;)

If you were judging Raines on potential then you should judge the others on potential too. This means in your list Deledio should be number 1 and Tambling number 2 :thumbsu:

Tambling = too much of a worry at this stage. We are all crapping on about how much he has bulked up, how huge a preseason he is having...well he really needed to if he even wanted to keep his spot in the best 22 let alone in our midfield. The fact that we keep referencing a NAB cup game last year as a sign he is gonna be a gun just screams Justin Plapp to me. Fair enough, he will be much better than plapp...but Raines has more potential for mine at this stage. Hes got that explosiveness out of packs that you just cant teach and a booming kick despite not being that big. It would be Deledio, Raines, Tambling and Polo about even, Foley, White, Howat if i had to rank the youngsters on potential.

Sounds like you are describing Tambling ;)

Except he has better skills.

Raines was picked up at like number 76... the experts didn't see much potential in him. He puts in the hard work and has improved, but potential wise I rate Tambling's "potential best" quite above Rainsey's "potential best" :thumbsu:

I would agree if you said Raines is almost certain to reach his potential where Tambling is slightly less likely (although still very likely) as Raines has already shown what he can do.

Bling has all these tricks up his sleeve that we don't know about, that's why I see more potential in him.

Although l question his disposal, l too am tired of so many threads continuing to turn into a Johnson bashing. His ability to understand the game and listen to directions, to me is far greater than someone with great skill in hitting a target but fails to do the team thing - (ie. picking up his man who has managed to kick 4 matchwinning goals... sound familiar to anyone???)

Dumb, dumb post.
If any of those players become as good as KJ I'll be ecstatic but they are all well short ATM.
What you are basically saying is that our coaching staff, our players and the most respected opposition players in the competition have NFI.

LMFAO Tigermad.

His 2 efforts against WC in round 22 were an embarrasment and enough to prove how overrated Johnson is. He is not a skilful player and he is not a smart player.
