Thoughts? New GeForce cards out soon so I'll probably swap that in.

Seems about the right price, although not sure on a few of your parts there.

CPU is efficient for it's price, thoughts about going Quad?

If you're not going to overclock then you won't need that RAM, way overkill.

Thermaltake PSU's aren't really reknowned for their quality, better off getting something tried and trusted like a Corsair TX-750W.

Other than that pretty sweet.

A mate has Vista running and says he wouldn't do it without 4GB. Also Quad - does anything actually make full use of quad core yet? I think you can patch Photoshop but that's about all I know of.

Thermaltake PSU's are alright for quality with the more expensive ones, the cheaper ones aren't great.

Maybe go for a 2 x 2GB config, instead of 4 x 1GB, just for some reason you decide to add some RAM (highly unlikely with 4GB, but you never know).

Also that motherboard has an Intel chipset doesn't it? Doesn't that mean it doesn't support SLi, only Crossfire? Just in case you decide to do it, as you mentioned in the nVidia GT200 thread. Not worth it anyway IMO

Other than those two points, seems like a kick-ass system :)

Just had a look at one of the quotes and, being a noob with hardware, my mate had to point out that they'd put in a mobo with ATI Cross Wire with a Nvidia video card meaning I couldn't add another Nvidia card later. Bloody Umart...

yes you'll need to invest in a SLI motherboard if you want to go SLI later down the track. I'd suggest an nForce motherboard like a 780i, I have one and it's fantastic.

Also I'd recommend a Thermalright Ultra Extreme 120 CPU cooler. Smashes the Zalman for cooling & for a similar price.

Also take a look at the new ATI 4850, initial reviews show they could be king in bang for buck.

The p182 is a nice case, but also look at the RC-690, an equally awesome case for about half the price.

So I reckon this is what I'll settle on in the end. Only one HDD as I have 4 or 5 already. 750i mobo rather than 780i.

RC-690 case - a friend bought one but there is a bit of a noise issue with one of the side fans I think?

I pointed that out too ;)

Anyway, the new one looks great :thumbsu:

Yes a wise move to spend $2k on a new box considering I just finished up a work contract and don't know when I'll start on the next, if ever

You always have BigFooty to make your millions.

I would have gotten Vista Ultimate, simply because it's ultimate. And I have it.
