3AW has just announced that Rawlings will play for North next year on a 3yr $1.1million contract.

Looks like Whitnall is our last hope for next year.

bloody hell......that is sooooo stuffed up. i'd rather Geelong now turn their attention to getting someone like Daniel Bradshaw down at the club now. At least we now can keep our pick no.7??

This really annoys me.... we never seem to be able to attract decent players to want to play for our club and unless the AFL looks at this issue, Geelong will never ever be able to compete with the bigger clubs, even the bigger Victorian clubs.

That's it... we should move heaven and earth to re-sign Bartel and tell the other 15 clubs to **** off because we're not trading with them. Why should we give up any of our good young kids to help them out?? I reckon we should bite the bullet and let our kids mature as a group, keep them together and put up with the short term pain of playing them knowing that they'll be good in time.

This sucks, I was so super confident that he would chose Geelong as well. His reason apparently is pretty soft, the travel issue. About 10 of our players live in Melbourne, hell even the coach lives in Melbourne, so whats so special about him. He would have made a great addition to the forward line, I agree lets go after Daniel Bradshaw, no hope of getting him but we can at least try.

I noe theres a few of u out there that disagree with me wen i say Geelong should make a move on Bradshaw. True, i reckon Rawlings would hav made a better forward recruit, but now that he's gone, we hav to face the facts.
Bradshaw is a much more realistic target than Whitnall. And, in my opinion, a much better target.

Take the knot out of your knickers everyone.

Rawlings would have been Justin Murphy Mark II.
Money chaser, individual bigger than the club, my way or (litterally) the highway.

Much better off without him, and developing your young KPP that look promising.

We just can't land those big name players can we. Now watch them go and waste the money on a couple of duds!

I agree with an earlier post that we are better off now to stick with the youth policy. Could mean another frustrating year in 2004 though as I can't see any of the young forwards giving us the value that Rawlings would have. He is someone that takes contested marks consistantly. Exactly what we needed!

so wat will we do with this extra $1 million bucks??
Turn our attention to another player? (Bowden, Bradshaw etc.)
Or keep it to make sure we stay reasonably below the salary cap?

Now that we have lost Rawlings, I think that Geelong should actively chase Sav Rocca.
Before you immediatley think that this is going to be another Brett Spinks mistake, listen to my reasoning.
We know that we are only going to get 2 years at the most out of Rocca. All that we need him to do is sit in the forward line and provide a target. He takes the best defender that leaves McCarthy and Kingsley with the 2nd and 3rd best defenders which means they could pop up and hopefully kick a few goals.
After Rocca has been down here for a year or two McCarthy, Gardiner and Playfair will have hopefully developed into KPP's.
Plus we all know that McCarthy needs a descent kicking coach and Rocca could be the man to do it.
We also would not have to loose a descent player to gain him either, I think that north would be happy with a late draft pick.

This really #$%# me off. How long do you have to wait as a Geelong supporter for a big name player to be attracted down here. The media are to blame for Geelong's reputation, how often do you hear us refferred to as "sleepy hollow"? Until the small minded media get of our back and give us a break no one will ever want to come here. Rawlings is a huge loss to Geelong, Whitnall is not the answer either, we are going to have throw everything at Bradshaw now. We can't wait much longer!

Spot on. Surely the development of our kids will be better in the long run?!!

Full steam ahead to Pick 7!!!!!!!

Instead of making excuses, how about addressing the fact the Geelong FC has had 40 years of failure?

Obviously changes need to be made within if you are going to be able to attract name players

Line up back to back and I will try to take you both out with the one bullet.

Worst case scenario, you will be severly ******ed and not know what is happening anyway.

So which players from Geelong's shortlist of desired forwards from a couple of months back are still available?

I hope the Cats make a play for Perrie.

The list of possibles mid year is down to:

Expierenced Players
Whitnall - Doubtful, might get him if we threw lots at the desperate blues
Richo - Gun player but will be 29 next year. Short term fix
Bradshaw - Uncontracted but will stay with the Lions
Croad - getable but isn't a number 1 forward. 600K is way too much
B. Holland - Got trashed by BG. Maybe but he would have to be cheap
N. Holland - over 30 pass
D. Haynes - Not tall enough to be KP. Is a handy flanker
Rocca - No Comment. We may as well play Blake or Chaplin ;) the whole year
McKernan - No comment.
T. Longmuir - Alas its not justin. Troy is not up to a KP
That's it

untried targets
S. Morrison - Is coming home apparently. Won't get a game why Brown is their. Could be worth a punt. Played a few games and goes OK
Weller - Lions fans really rate him.
A Hansen - WCE is returning to Victoria
P Johnson - If we trade Bartel to the Eagles I'd rater him than Haynes

As you can see there is not a lot of quality left. Richo and Whitnall should be our next targets but after that where down to the 'gamble' category. Maybe trade week might provide us with a miracle out of the blue but I doubt it.

Why should we concentrate on Bartel? He has had an offer waiting for signature for almost 2 months and still hasn't signed. We are waiting for him to make a decision and if he doesn't want to stay then p.ss off now James.

He wont kick us a winning score or provide a target in the forward line so I can't really fathom the inflated opinions people have about his worth to the GFC.

Sorry, I don't really rate him and he obviously doesn't rate us if he wont sign a new contract.
