i heard 2nite on the news that the Western Warriors had been renamed Retravision Warriors for $1 million

i'm all for helping WA Cricket finiancially but, seriously, naming rights should cost a lot more than $1 mil, especially when the team made the final in the one day series

Does anyone know how much WA Cricket is in debt?
i just don't see the need in such a cheap naming right - subi oval rejected $5 mil

It's great that money is coming in for domestic cricket, but naming rights for teams is one thing I can't stand.

I cringed everytime I heard a ground announcer call out "SpeedBlitz Blues" at a NSW game last summer.

Not normally a fan of naming rights, but at $1 mill a year for the Warriors that's a gift horse that a cash strapped WACA cannot look in the mouth.

Makes $1 mill a year for Subi sound cheap.

3 mil over 3 years is pretty good...
i thought it was 1 mil over 3 years

Does anyone know how much WA Cricket or, woteva the controlling body is, is in debt

This is VERY good money, especially for Domestic Cricket. If you don't like the commercialised name, just tune into the ABC who still call the Domestic Comp, The Sheffield Shield.

I don't think they officially use it (besides tv adverts) but the Cascade Tigers wouldn't be that bad......I'm sure they could out the money to good use.

And those bloody Speedblitz Blues ads with the players talking about fatalities from speeding..."That's like...all my team mates."

i do not like this worrying trend.

next you'll have the local derby between the telstra eagles and the vodafone dockers.

i'm a bit annoyed that mestic cricket reverted to the bushrangers, blues, bulls, redbacks etc... i much prefer Vic, NSW, Qld, SA

In Perth, Wally Forman and Glen Mitchell call it the Sheffield Shield. Not sure what the other states refer it to.

$1m a year is an incredible deal that they would have been brain dead to turn down. It's not like anyone calls them anything other than WA and bugger all people show up to watch them play, so they can't really lose support.

Kath White is ruining WA cricket. If she had the bloody brains to realise that there are about 8000 financial members who are willing to turn up to every game schedueled just to watch some cricket then they'd actually be making some money, but instead, they pander to the general public and screw over the members.

What do you mean FBF  - about making money out of already paid-up members.

Because they've made all these stupid changes(ie. forcing members to reserve the best seats) they've had a huge drop in membership(I dont know the exact figure, but it's something like 8000 members to 3,500 members) so they're alienating a financial base. What I mean by making money off the members is that, the less people they have as permanent members, the less people there are that are going to use the expensive facilities that they've put in the Lillee-Marsh stand, and those facilities may start to lose a lot of money, when they should be making a huge profit.
