Telstra bigpond has control over every afl teams official website (apart from 2 clubs)... The Richmond site is the worst of this bad bunch.
Looking at other club websites... EPL teams etc. you can clearly see the gulf in class. Is it really worth maintaining the bigpond agreement? I know we recieve a grant from the AFL for sticking with them however if we want to be leaders off the field I think this is a great place to start.
The closest us tiger fans get to the club midweek is through this website, we recieve:
- Superficial statistics of only the current season.
- Short, facile player profiles. 'high hopes for this youngster etc.'
- A horible interface - slow, error ridden, user unfriendly
- The generic AFL sponsored articles that are so bland that even caffeine addict on speed falls asleep after the opening paragraph.
But there are so many oppotunities:
- A real weekly Tiger TV section with players, coach and staff involved.
- Internet membership: gives us funds, access for fans to more club operations/decisions.
- Something uniquely tigers - use your imaginations: competitions, fans contributions, links, affiliations to other clubs.
The annoying thing is that 80% of tiger fans on this forum could contribute some great stuff to our club online... the generic websites deny clubs the best tool for interaction with all fans, they also deny the opportunity for clubs to be creative, entreprenuerial and unique.
It is unfortunate that the AFL is trying to turn the league into a corporate franchise.
