No this is not a cool hipster band that you just told yourself you think they are great....

Anyone make their own ringtones? Sick of hearing 20-something year old girls with lamo rnb ringtones that are essentially just a song.

Some music can be edited to really work well. The ring tones I have made for myself:

1. The keyboard riff from beck's "Where it's at"
2. The part of Jean Michel Jarrre's Oxygen II that features on the movie Gallipoli
3. The solo Edwyn Collin's to "Girl Like You"

These ones all work and sound great. No lyrics and limited instruments.

Tried:

4. The best xylophone solo in the histroy of music being Violent Femmes "Gone Daddy Gone". Unfortunately this does work because there's too many other instruments at the same time. If you could isolate just the xylophone it would be a cracker

5. Hot Chocolate's "Everyone's a Winner" riff. Sounds ok but it's a bit porno.

6. Zeppelin's "No Quarter" riff. Girls look at you like when you look at them when their Rhianna ring tone goes off. Don't recommend.

7. Kyuss' "Lick Do". Good for Lol's but also not recommended.

Anyone made any good ones? Anyone got any good ideas

I'm so tempted to have the line 'everybody be cool this is a robbery' from Pulp Fiction as my ringtone, but can't bring myself to do it.

Wouldn't say i get many requests for individual instrument sections of songs...... whenever someone tells me to edit something for them to ringtone form it's usually the chorus part of a song or the 30 intro or out-tro. My most popular requests of late have been The Late Late Show w/ Craig Ferguson theme and the Secretariat dance music from the same show.

One of the weirdest for sms tones was the Bosnich laugh:

Just keep your phone on silent. No-one is ever impressed with a ring tone, no matter how much thought you've put into it and how cool you think it is.

lol :thumbsu:

The main heavy riff from Asteroid could work well on loop, maybe?

This is my ringtone...

Commodore 64 music works well, as it sounds like it could actually be a ringtone, sort of. Plus the Last Ninja 2 soundtrack one of my favourite video game soundtracks, so still means something to me. I doubt many others would recognize it too.

I used to use this Machinae Supremacy song a while back, which still has a ringtone sound, but with metal, plus they are one of my favourite bands, so again means something to me.

As someone in the comments say "This is clearly the most epic Ringtone ever", haha. I probably should go back to this one.

Again, Commodore 64 sounds - this band uses a "SID station" synth (with the Commodore 64 SID sound chip).

The theme music to the amiga game "canon fodder" for everyone but when the missus rings its "confusion" by new order...blood song from blade. She detests it so i made it hers

Not strictly true. For a long time I had Zeppelin's "Black Dog" as my ringtone, and every now and again random people would compliment it... but, yeah, mostly I have it on silent or vibrate anyway. :p

Currently using the Miami Vice theme as the actual song, though:

At the moment I have the main riff leading into the first verse from Led Zeppelin's How Many More Times.

Previously I've used the main riff post chorus and into the bridge from Black Dog, and the main riff right after the intro from Motley Crue's Dr Feelgood.

There is an ap called Ringtone Designer for iPhone (not sure about other devices) which is what I used to make all of those. You can do it with any song in your library and I think it set me back $2.

Got asked to rip the guitar sequence with Eric Draven in The Crow as a ringtone. The track of it on the music score soundtrack is sooo much better.

Aside from the Superman OST, i would class both The Crow music from/inspired by and the Music Score soundtracks as the best soundtracks around :thumbsu:.

One i am currently rocking, stands out and is quite quirky.

Previously had the intro to master of puppets and seek and destroy- Metallica
main riff of Shazam - Spiderbait.
Main riffs from Wynona's big brown beaver and Jerry was a racecar driver- Primus.
