Re: Robbie Fowler joins QLD Fury

Really!? Did not see THAT coming. If they can nab Chippers as well like they intend to do I'm sure people will start to take the Greens a lot more seriously.

Re: Robbie Fowler joins QLD Fury

It might put bums in seats, but if plays anything like he did at Cardiff its a stupid waste of time and money and a marquee spot.

Re: Robbie Fowler joins QLD Fury

North Queensland are now my second team behind Melbourne regardless of whether Fowler turns out to be good or bad.

Re: Robbie Fowler joins QLD Fury

A legend in the epl, will increse attendences. hopefully he will be a gun player but strikers over 30 such as ago and aloisi have shown that reputation doesnt mean much if you cant score goals.

Re: Robbie Fowler joins QLD Fury

Will do much better at the Fury then those washed up hacks Yorke and Aloisi at Shitney FC IMHO.

Good for attendances but he is well and truly finished as a competitive player and is as crocked as they come.
Ive already had a bet with a mate that he wont score 4 goals in his first year.

But hopefully he brings the crowds, which I guess is most important.

Didnt watch much of V1 ?? Yorke was far and away their best player. As for Aloisi..... well we all know how well that went

Wut?

Yorke did so well at Sydney FC he was best on ground in the V1 Grand Final and captained them to the title, earning himself a move back to the Premiership via the Championship in the process.

Re: Robbie Fowler joins QLD Fury

One hopes the league has improved since Yorke was here. He basically walked around in midfield, the opposition midfielders were in awe and too scared to go near him.

Re: Robbie Fowler joins QLD Fury

Cant wait till the Fury come to Melbourne.

Should be a decent get. As a striker he never really relied on his pace or speed off the mark, what he did rely on was his natural finishing ability and just a general brain for soccer (being in the right place at the right time, reading the play... ect).
But you think with a striker like Fowler they will really need some creativity in midfeild.

Now I dont know a lot about the team they have put together so far but i dont think they have a midfeilder who can supply him.

He'll generate interest in North Queenlsand no doubt about that. For that he'll be a good signing.

Onfield, you'll probably get 7 or 8 goals from him. Thats an average return but his signing is more focused on the commercial side of the game rather than his on-field work.

A legend of the Premier League, but in all honesty it is still a poor signing football wise. Sure, it will attract many people to attend NQL games but he really did look out of shape at Cardiff and Blackburn.

Now he just looks massive, won't pull the crowds if he's not scoring the goals come the mid-point of the season.

Aparently the A-league is a little bit of a step down compared to Blackburn. Fair enough fitness maybe down but his sublime finishing is natural and something that he has so much over any other forward in the A-league. I always remember dad saying he was one of the best finishers ever.

He was terribad in the championship as well (still a higher level than the A-League, but still ..)

the point is that he's a fat lazy slob with debilitating injuries these days.

yer alot higher and plus hes a proven champion and even at his age should be one of the top scorers injury permitting

Lol, does everyone realise by the time the season starts he wouldnt have played a competitive game in almost a year, plus he wouldnt have scored a goal in almost 2 YEARS.

Injury haunts him at every turn, especially at his age.

If (and thats a big IF) he can stay fit, in a league like ours he should score a few goals. Hes not going to star on the pitch, but as far as the Fury (I still lol at that name) are concerned its what the name Robbie Fowler brings. That said if he has a crap first few matches thatll drop off.

Lets not forget at Blackburn he only made one appearance off the bench? and was a pay as you play deal, which should have given him more incentive to get fit but that didn't seem to happen.

I'm not saying he isnt a good finisher but if your not fit enough to get in goal scoring positions then your not gonna score.

I'm sure they could have signed someone who wasn't 33 years old and could finish and get in goal scoring positions for 1m a season.

Waste of money if you ask me but I stand to be corrected.
