I am of the opinion that David Rodan needs to do a lot more work on the defensive side of the game. A few times over the past couple of weeks, I have noticed him standing by while an opponent is running away with the ball. He needs to use that explosive pace and quadzilla legs and strength to make life hell for the opposition.

I agree. But most eigthteen year olds don't have much of a defensive side to thier game. I still believe he should be given full games in the middle.
I predict that he will take a game apart one of these days. Probably against the saints.

Maybe he is being played out of position, or is not on ground long enough to pick up pace of the game, and because of his disorientation is not switched on to tackle.
