Rodney Baird is a tall, lanky key defender from the Palmerston Magpies in the NTFL. He's had a breakout season at NTFL level and could go on to win the Rising Star award. He's played every game as a full back, matching up on the competition's best forwards. His height and speed off the mark enable him to spoil from behind as well as take intercept marks in front. He has a bit of filling out to do, but has been signed by NT Thunder and should have significant playing time in the NEAFL this season. He'll be 19 by the time the draft rolls around, the closest player comparison is probably Michael Johnson. Expect him to be a handy third tall defender when he starts his career, potentially becoming a key defender or even a forward. Has great footy smarts and a good kick, and is definitely an athlete.
