Rookies 2015

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

At this moment we have 2 listed rookies Frost & Gault plus Cox as a new Cat B.
If we are upgrading a rookie to the senior list then we have until 31 October to do this (1st list lodgment).
We also need to nominate our Cat B rookies (at the moment only Cox) at this time.
So if nothing happens this week, then we will have 2 rookie places open.
Our Cat B list would have Cox only.
Doubt we will go down the nominated rookie path next year.

Delist Ramsay and rookie him. Get an depth ruckman.

Using pick 48 or 85?
Better off using pick 48 on best avail/Hine special & just rookie a Ruckman as back up.

That's what I meant. Hine special at 48 please.

Panos would definitely lighten the load on Pendles or even allow him to play more outside whilst he takes the big bodied role at clearances. Killed it in the SANFL in his first season in the role of midfielder and should be able to translate that to AFL level. Was listed at the Dogs as a tall forward awhile back.

And Brett Eddy while they're at it.
Wouldnt be against it!
What position does he play?
191/192/193cm classy midfielder, who is a great field kick.
Only just became a midfielder, so he has scope to improve, hes a Michael Barlow story ready to unfold in my opinion.

Well just over 2 days to go for Rookie upgrade nominations (close 2pm Friday).
The club hasn't indicated one way or the other (regarding Frost).
The longer time ticks by, it's looking more than likely he will remain on the rookie list for 2015.

So we have Frost, Gault plus Armstrong (if he survives to our pick) as rookies for 2015, leaving us with 1 rookie place open (or 2 if we pass on 85 & go down the nominated rookie path).
Only 1 Cat B rookie, Cox.

I think unless a guy we really rate, like Jono Marsh last year, happens to be available at pick 85, I think we'll head into the season with 39 senior listed players, 5 rookies and 1 cat B rookie.

That's 3 live ND picks and 2 live rookie selections. Just creating a tad more salary cap space.

Certainly wouldn't be against Panos as a rookie.

Brett Eddy and/or Matthew Panos would suit me fine. I don't know if getting another tall forward such as Eddy would suit the club, however, but I'd love to see him back at Collingwood.

There's a recent Fox Sports video on him here:-

It mentions that at least six clubs are interested in him, including Gold Coast and Carlton.

I think we'll use pick 85 so we don't have to use the last pick in the rookie draft effectively moving us up the draft order.

I understand that line of thinking. On the flip side, someone taken in the ND gets an automatic 2 year deal and the salary is in our salary cap. On the rookie list, it's only a 1 year deal and outside the salary cap.

I can't help but feel we've cleared a shit load of cap space for the next few years to have a decent crack at some top notch quality.

It would if we're looking to get Reid back up the other end of the ground, as Dekka pretty much said we were when he was interviewed during the Mitch Clark wrangling. Eddy is that kind of 'plug-and-play' mature age lead-up target.

I hope those jumpers hanging in the background aren't indicative of the identities of the clubs interested in him, because that would seem to rule us out...:(

I wasn't aware Hine had said that in recent times with regards to Reid. Given that we now have a list that is young, inexperienced and developing, getting some mature and ready to play types with late/rookie picks would seem to make sense. I've been a fan of Eddy for quite a while (obviously you have too), if we do end up using pick 85 in the draft I'll be very happy if we use it on him. Should we end up with McCartin (unlikely) or Wright with our first pick in the draft it's perhaps less likely they would go with another tall forward. I am looking forward to the upcoming drafts even more than usual!

As for the jumpers, I've no idea why they have a bloke in a South Adelaide jumper in front of a bunch of AFL club jumpers!!

Yes, that's what is happening. With the leaked players list with jumper numbers for 2015, the club has listed jumper 39 as rookie #1 & jumper 41 as rookie#2.
We are therefore not using pick 85 (as most suspected).
Final list of 39 senior.
5 rookies: Frost, Gault, rookie pick #1, rookie pick #2, Armstrong.
1 rookie to be nominated/upgraded, which is Jack Frost.
