My mail is that Darren Brakenridge from North Adeliade is also out training with us for a spot on the pre season list or on the rookie list.

I watched this kid play in the Nationals and he certainly has a lot of talent. He was played out of position at CHB but did a magnificent job. In fact saw him play on Watts at the MCG in the first game and IMHO he beat Watts hands down. No doubt about it.

Dont be surprised to see him taken in the preseason draft or at worst put on the rookie list for promotion later in the year.

A much better 'prospect' than Grocke who has a tendancy to go missing when it matters most.

Darren is definetly training with us. I must say I was very impressed with his game against Fergus Watts in the U18s Championships. He gave Watts a hiding that day despite being some 8-9 cm shorter.

I don't know if we will pick him up in the pre-season draft but if we rookie list him I would be very happy. Athletic type who is a fantastic overhead and is pretty quick. He could be the sort of player we could develop to take over from Hart down the track (doubt whether he would be as good). Similar player whoo can play big and small.

As I said I would be very happy if we rookie list him.:)

BTW, welcome crowboy.

From the AFL Draft Camp comments

"Darren Brakenridge (North Adelaide) 25.01.85 187 cm 81 kg Tall, inside defender or forward who is strong overhead. Excellent cricketer and athlete. Originally from Peterborough FC."

The 187 cms might be a bit of a worry, unless he's versatile enough to be a flanker. Translates to about 6 foot oneand a half inches in the old language, which is far too short for a KPP.

What position would he be likely to make it at AFL level??

i wasnt ever suggesting that he should be thought of as a KPP. I was merely stating that he gave Fergus Watts a bath that day at the MCG and was hopeful that our forward thinking recruiting staff would have the nouse to grab this kid while they can.

Would hate to see him let go for another year to "develop" (Pavlich style) and then it comes back to bite us on the bum in future years.

Rumour has it that the other SA mob have shown a lot of interest in this kid and talking with Alan Stewart he rates him very highly. Asked him to train at Alberton but the kid said no. He wanted to train with our mighty crows!

See, the kid even has the sense to nick that other mob off in the hope of being taken by the real SA team in the AFL!!!!!

Lets hope we pick this kid in the rookie draft at worst.

He would be a teriffic Half Back, Wing, Half Forward, On Baller. I would start him off at Half Back, let him develop and get use to the game there for a year or so and then have no doubt he would be ready to take on a mid field role. Very, Very unlucky to not be named All Australian from the Nationals.

No worries macca23. The kid is versatile enough and will develop into a rebounding defender/wingman/half forward. To be honest I was very surprised that he didn't get drafted. Worth a 1st pick in the rookie draft if he is still available.
