Rusling won't be ready and IMO neither will Rocca.
If Rocca plays any more than 10 games this year it will be a win. Trust me

If Bryan gets off then deserves a game before Wood
Yeah he stuffed up on the boundary but thats just a perfect example of why rules like the rushed behind should never be taken away from the game of AFL. You mightt disagree but he seemed to me like he was the only one giving it everything out there friday night.

Once the game was done and dusted everybody seemed to drop their heads but i believe he still showed some good signs once he moved forward and yes, he has half taken the raking left foot out of his game ! he spots up targets now..

H and shaw are great inclusions that we dearly missed in our backline on Friday.

I like this team, probably have didak on a wing tho and thomas down back (no more forwards, like a quarter back role). Also, I'd probably have Sidebottom, Stanley or Wellingham instead of Toovey on the bench. If Cox is in, Toovey's out as I believe they are fighting for a backline spot. If its Cox (which I believe it should be) we're better off having a mid coming off the bench to add depth..

Anyways the competitions good, first time we've had good depth in years.

Great lineup, Goldsack unluck to miss out, and I wouldn't have Reid up forward

What is it with most people saying Goldy isn't in our best 22, i think he is a great player, and really helps out the backline immensly. I would be expecting him to start come round 1, also because mick has a truck load of faith in him.

Wellingham and Johnson dont deserve to be selected.
Beams has to be selected.
Stanley might get a gig but he'll be the last man picked in the 22. I'd like to see him picked for the clearance work as you mention. Should have got more than half a game in the NAB Cup.
Ditto Sidebottom, might just miss out. Cant pick 'em all.
Maxwell is a problem considering the form of O'Brien Cox and Toovey. Happy to see him given a specific role if there was one available, although Toovey would do a better tagging job than Maxwell. I wish he wasnt captain, he's not the best available in any position on the ground.

Based on what we've seen in the NAB Cup, this is how I would like to see them line-up for round one:

HF: Didak / Cloke / Lockyer
F: Medhurst / Anthony / Reid
FOLL: Fraser* / Swan / Davis
INT: Bryan / O'Bree / Toovey / Beams
EMG: Goldsack / Stanley / Wellingham

* If Heath Shaw doesn't pull up fit for the match, I would bring Wellingham in and drop Clarke back to the HBF. Goldsack would be unlucky in this instance, but I just don't think we can carry Moneybags, Toovey and Cox in the same defence. If Fraser is injured, Wood obviously gets another chance.

As for other points, I think we'll need more than Anthony and Cloke as our tall targets up forward. Therefore, I would give Reid the forward job of presenting further afield, with Cloke being able to play a little deeper (hopefully nullifying Bock's rebound as well). We can always swing Reid around as circumstances dictate, but at the very least I think it will give the Crows something to think about since we last met.

Thomas can start on a wing but do a bit of work cleaning up down back, as we saw in the NAB Cup. Spending a bit of time working down back throughout the course of a game seems to open things up a bit more for Daisy when he does push forward -- the opposition are more likely to get caught off-guard.

I would love to find a spot for Stanley in this side, but as I put it together with what is most likely in mind as opposed to what I would like to see; he unfortunately misses out. Personally, I would have been content to have started Beams in the VFL alongside our other most recent additions and given Stanley an opportunity to prove himself before being overlooked.

What is most pleasing about exercises such as this, is how difficult it is to pick the starting 22.

Yep, this is pretty much what i would expect. I would like to see McCarthy swapped in here for Johnson though.

I think Bryan is in front of Wood for a spot as well, unfortunately. We need Wood to become a senior grade ruckman desperately.

Yeah we all seem to have a very similar 20-21 picked, with only 1 or 2 variations.

I went for Johnson over Toovey, as I feel we need midfielder for balance over yet another utility/half back which we have too much of. Which is not to say I have not been impressed with Toovs or Goldsack.

Although Beams might spend a bit more time onball in the real stuff - we have seemed to just quietly hide him away on the flanks.
