Guys, from an opposition supporter and a Melbourne one at that I hope to see Melbourne in the next year or two follow along a similar line to what you guys have achieved this season.

However, it is clear to see that you need someone to help out Fev up forward and kick 30 - 40 goals a season. I think Russell Robertson would fit the bill for you guys perfectly. He is 30 years old and could give you at least 2 years of solid footy, being the support that Fev so desperately needs & chipping in with his 30 -40 goals a season, possibly more. He has been relatively injury free throughout his career so its not like he is an old 30 year old. He has been able to average around 2+ goals a game for Melbourne, the last few seasons being the main focal point in attack in what has been the worst team. He is still in our best team but because we won't win a flag in the next year or two they have moved him on to hopefully develop someone who will.

If you guys think you can win the flag witin the next two years whilst Fev is also young enough, Robbo would be the perfect fit. You would get him for nothing and would be well worth your 37th or 38th list spot.

What do you think?

If he came cheap would give us some depth up forward. Personally I would rather Barry Hall or both. We desperately need a monster up forward to take the pressure off Fev. Hall is only a year older than Bradshaw from Brissy so I don't think age should be a factor. A forward line consisting of Fev, Hall, Robbo?, Betts, Garlett/Yarran, Kreuzer would be awesome. Juddy, Fev and Stevens will probably all be gone in four years time, so our Premiership window starts next season.

I think this could have slotted in quite neatly to one of the dozen or so threads that are up and running about who we should draft next year.

Should definitely be considered. Robbo has shown this season that he still has a couple of years left in him, and our forward line could use some help.

However, regardless of whether we get Robbo, we must recruit another key forward whether through the draft or trade. This should be our main recruiting priority at the moment I would think.

I reckon hes worth a crack, hes not gonna cost us anything and kicked 29 goals this year in 13 games in the bottom team. As the rest of you said, we need another forward regardless, so I don't see why we wouldn't give him a chance.

I like his attitude and after hearing his speeches the other week i think he is a great player to have at a club.

however, i wouldnt risk it. i dont think we have the solution to help out fev right right now, but we should look for a long term solution. No bandaid fixes.

Though about this one a little bit -with Fevola down there where would you play someone like Robbo

- out of the square

- deep in the pocket

Not sure how to position him so as not to detract from Fevola while still providing another scoring option.

Melbourne have said that they will help him find a new club so they way I see it, if you want him you'll get him for your last pick in the draft or the PSD for free.

As far as payments go I reckon he'd play for a pie and coke seeing as I believe he just wants another opportunity.

He'd play for nothing just to get another crack at a super self-conscious, cameras rolling, aw shucks guys farewell speech. The real danger being our players choking on their own vomit. Er, that's a no, 1Adam12.

Speaking of vomit...if we did recruit Robbo next year the only reason I would purchase a membership would be so I could chew it up lanyard and all and vomit it into a zip lock sandwich bag and send it back to the club.

Hopefully that captures my thoughts on the matter rather succintly for all.

Barry Hall a much better option...strong man who kicks goals. Seriously what opposition would be scared of Robbo...none. I get the feeling a few clubs are playing it low key with regards to Hall. Trust me if he wants to continue, a club will take him in a heart beat. Forget the brain fades that can be built into his contract. Carlton have a window of opportunity in the next four seasons...time to strike.

Hit the nail on the head with that one. If he wants to, he will definitely end up somewhere next year. Can you imagine a forward line with Hall and Fev?? :D

Had his fare share of injuries of recent times and the wrong side of 30 so cant see any clubs taking him. Certainly not Carlton who have a well documented policy of drafting/trading for players 24 yo or less. I agree with the policy.

Screw the youth policy I say. It is irrelevant to focus on youth every year or we will always be a developing middle of the range club. Our opportunity is now (well, next season) and I believe Robbo would be a great partner for Fev, and the second option we need if we want success. At worst his reputation will at least draw a player to him which puts him 1 up on Cloke and makes fev be left one out which is very good news for us.

And if it fails who cares? I'm pretty sure we would have drafted a dud with our last pick anyway as our history shows.

everyone is talking about forward pressure and really focusing on Fisher and others who do not step up when the ball is turned over. Robbo can take a mark and kick a goal but he has NO defensive side to his game. He is a show pony. If we were to get him he would be a depth player tops! I would rather Akermanis anyday
