AFL Club
Carlton
a nice little read about one of the lesser known players. good to see that he knows he has to put extra work to improve as a player, would love him to make it as an afl player.

Although he was Carlton’s last selection (no. six) in the December 16 rookie draft, Sam Jacobs was always confident he was returning to the Melbourne-based club for a third season. “I wasn’t nervous as my manager had informed me I was going back to Carlton well before draft day,” Jacobs explained from Melbourne.
“I’ve been training at the club since October 27, and we go through until Tuesday (today). Then I grab a flight back home on Tuesday night and spend the next 10 days with my family.
“I’ll be doing a bit a work over the break — training most days once Christmas day festivities are over.
“We start back in Melbourne on January 5, so I’ll be departing the day before.
“I expect to do between four to five hours training per day from Boxing Day. Areas I’ll be looking to focus on are my athleticism and marking.
“I always remember Rick Macgowan making the comment to me back in 2006 that ‘big blokes are a liability if they are not taking marks’.”
Despite missing six games during the year with injury, Jacobs finished playing 15 matches with the Northern Bullants in the VFL competition, including a finals appearance during 2008.
This is added to his 13 league games in 2007 with the Bullants and the 13 SANFL senior games he played with Woodville-West Torrens in 2006.
Jacobs explained, while he hasn’t yet set personal goals for 2009, his major ambition is to get elevated to the Carlton senior list and have a good shot at playing for the Blues.
One of Jacobs’s stellar experiences so far is being able to train alongside AFL superstar Chris Judd.
“Chris is just a down-to-earth, cracking bloke,” Jacobs said. “The reason he is the best is because he trains so hard and has set a very high standard for his team-mates to follow.”

i just hope that he develop well and puts pressure on the other guys to keep there spot. im also really glad he's back at the club he's got every thing you need to be a good ruckmen

He worked very hard to trim down and has earnt his recall as a rookie.

I'm glad the club has given him another go, although our ruck stocks are pretty healthy already.

I wouldnt be surprised if this guy is somehow elevated and then used as trade bait to GC17.

A young team might just want a ruckman with 3 years development put into him
