Frawley makes Schoey's life easier. If Frawley becomes the gorilla FB taking over from Lake, Schoey can slim up, find some pace and look at CHB, although that'd be 2016. Until then super handy depth.

Interesting the club talks about him playing on a wing/flank. I've gone on about his pre-injury form a bit but his field kicking was excellent in early 2013. If that Schoey comes back he's a player.

I agree he had some rubbish moments this year but I love a feel good story and a guy who doesn't give up. I have an ongoing argument about Schoey with a guy at work who hates him. There might be a sense of him never being a Lake replacement. We have one now. Pressure is off

It depends if Hawthorn actually see him as a backman now.

I would be training him as a forward this year...emphasis on speed and agility.

Spangher is the back up for both Lake and Frawley.

its only fitting that Shoey is back up for Gunston and Roughead whilst O'brien still develops his body.

Schoey will be trained for versatility thats the Hawthorn way. He will play wherever he is needed if he is needed. Similar to Gunston he will be slimmed down and drift back into the back line when needed and drift forward when its required. He will need to trim down a big pre season for Schoey coming up.

Well, I personally doubt we'd get more than a packet of chips for trading him now. We may well find we do have need of him, and he might rediscover his 2013 pre-injury form. I generally trust Wrighty and co, they have shown themselves to be absolute masters of list management and drafting.

Imagine what Schoenmakers could become if only he learned how to read the ball in flight.

Imagine what he could become if he had any footy-smarts what-so-ever!?

Yes definitely makes sense and let's hope everyone gets behind him instead of being overly critical of every mistake he makes. He is no Lake or Gibbo but has the ability to become a good AFL player if he gets confidence back in his body and learns to back himself to mark instead of worrying about his opponent so much.

I hope he has a massive pre season and gets back to 2013 form.

Is that why we picked up Frawley because of his versatility...if I see him anywhere near our forward line i'll vomit.
Shoey needs to play in a position that doesn't involve being a KP defender.

He plays his best in the backline no doubt but if push comes to shove. Its a team game (especially defending) being versatile is one of the key reasons we have been so successful the last couple of years its definitely a coaching edict. Match ups of course make a difference. I mean gibson and lake pretty much defended when they played. Being versatile makes you more valuable to the team especially when injuries inevitably hit.

I get what you're saying....I just think Shoey needs to settle down into the one position for the betterment of his development.

The person wearing the Hawka costume in 2015 ? :D

Imagine what he could become if he had the power of teleportation.

Shoey always looks more comfortable forward, and will bevery capable once he gets his agility back. I personally thought it was a great effort to play as often and as well as he did this year coming off a knee reco. Frankly comparisons to Lake and Gibson are a little unfair, as beyond Harry Taylor, these two are probably the best performed key defenders in the game over the last five years.

Shoenmakers forward creates matchup nightmares for our opponents, it is a question of form and team balance whether he does this often or as a pinch hitter.

IMO and it is only mine - Schoenmakers can only fulfil his potential playing a second tall forward or half forward flanker. His biggest asset is his kicking and he can take a mark. He also needs to learn how to be more aggressive and attacking with and without the ball. That is the nature of the game. He needs to be more positive about his football otherwise, it won't work out for him regardless of skills and physique.

What I like about Schoey is the attitude he's shown over the last week. "I want to prove I'm good enough to break into this team", rather than "I'll crack the sads and move somewhere else to get a game". With a big pre-season and renewed confidence in his knee and his own ability, he'll go a long way to silencing the doubters.

...he'll either give away a free or be completely out-bodied?
