Hi Folks, Just thought I'd open this up as I really have a problem with Joely Selwood, 24 points to start the season off aint great and my gut instinct is he wont play next week, more often than not the player after being k'od doesnt score great anyway. (huge drop in price coming up)
Ok have some cash in my pocket and my strategy was to build a team that minimised dropping a premium to buy (sideways another premium) when there is a bye.
I accepted this when I chose Joel Selwood anyway that I would swap him out at some stage (obviously later in the season).
Another thing I did think about(and quickly dismised) is Joely is a bigger risk than most as he is ranked the number 1 player to receive head high free kicks for the last 3 yrs running:- 1st, 1st, 2nd And running the risk of being concussed, sure enough my worst fears were realised Rd 1 !!

So what do I do? cut him now, buy swanny in ( have peddles ) and juggle the side when the maggies have their byes..... or do I sit, ride it out and dump him anyway later.......what?
Im trying to achieve highest score end of the season.

Hold.

That was a freak accident. With 1 bye in first 20 odd, defo keeper until then.

You will regret it

Trade Selwood for Bartel. Was going to chose Selwood at the start of the year, I had the cash but something was telling me that Bartel was a better option, was way cheaper than what he deserved to be and with G.Ablett gone it gives more opportunity for him to rack up more possesions, i'm suprised by the amount of people that chose Selwood when Bartel was too cheap to pass up.

I had Jimmy in my team for most of the preseason and traded him out in the last week or so. My reasoning was that Jimmy will often play a variety of roles, HF, HB, tagger (not very often) and selwood is going to be always on the ball. I'll wait a few more rounds before assessing my decision

There's some funny gooses here, I assume you two in question think I'm taking the piss? Fozza do u have selwood? If so what was/is your plan with hold him until very end? and hope your cover reels out a 120?
I thought I'd throw it out there for advice not for you to pot me. Like I said we have 4 extra trades this year....some may says it a waste of 1 trade. I'm pretty sure he won't score over a hungee if he plays this week.

I wouldn't have any injury concerns as far as Selwood is concerned, he has played every game the last 3 seasons before this concussion ............

Selwood is the kind of player you KEEP in your squad for the whole season. If you have cover on the bench in case he misses this week then there isn't even a decision to make, he WILL come good and score you constant 100 points/rd. IMO it isn't worth burning a trade yet on a proven premium player, esp if you play league matches as Geelong have their 1st bye in rd 6 (a non-match rd) and then none until rd 22 (a pain in the ass rd). Yes you will want to eventually trade him out, but it is too early IMO.

That said I am also one of the guys who went with Bartel over Selwood as he is cheaper and will have a bigger role to play now that Ablett is gone IMO.

I would say to most people to just keep him, but if you dont have Swan then i would be pretty tempted to pick him up now and lock him in for the big C each week.

I actually kinda hope he don't go to Perth and can attack his future b/e nice and fresh, a little better come Round 3. But then again he could still run a muck vs Freo, who knows!?

His breakeven is irrelevant he is a keeper simple as that.

Re. RiCHii - Surely you're not basing your Bartel decision on one game where Selwood didn't get on the ground after quarter time?

I can't help but think a lot of Bartel's game was attributed to Selwood not being there taking points away from him.

Indeed. I just don't want others that don't have him to be able to swoop on him dirt cheap! Or us SCers who have started with him @ top dollar have been robbed!

We were the ones that saved our trades though.

i have Selwood and i have cover on the bench specifically for these spots. Do i expect them to pull a 120? no but am hoping for 80+. i'll keep selwood until rd 20 barring any LTI.

Are you planning to trade out any premium pick that misses a week or 2?

I'd keep him for one more week, if his not playing or stinks it up id move on to Jobe

He's got a bye in round 22. Thats 20 games before i was gonna upgrade him to a collingwood or stkilda gun, right in time for finals.

he's a keeper

Trade him. To Brent Staker. I don't care if Staker's not a midfielder, trade Selwood to Staker. Immediately.

You don't think outside the square enough. He should be using this opportunity to get Morabito and Staker in the one fell swoop.

Yep, if you're looking to trade out Selwood (a keeper you selected at the start of the season as you thought he was the best possible way of spending that money)... You'll probably be looking at nice safe options like Fevola, Staker, Brown, Moribito etc. At least you know how many points they're going to bring in each week.....

People do this believe it or not, they're the emotional players who wonder why they never do any good. You're 100% right here, the cover for Selwood may be 30-40 points down(tops) this week. So, miss out on 30-40 points or lose 1 trade... gee, tough decision.

To those who have done decent thing and given an honest answer/reply thanks (Mark) um to those that have even used the air during the time to give crap answers and shite why bother?? Bay 13 is down the hall.....to the left!!

It was an honest post with some hope of decent thoughts being thrown around.
This year with byes coming into play and such there will be sideways trading ......those who are elite supercoaches will trade at least once maybe twice this year. There has been evidence from the past that those players that have been hit hard don't actually come up trumps the following weeks afterwards. I kept some cash as for any players that I've missed....but to be honest Ive happy so far with the cash cows I have and my dilemma is actually Selwood who will go head 1st into everything as he does and Johncock which cramped up......is this going to be a thing for those older premiums not able to get a rub down so often??
For those who wish to spend some time and bounce some thoughts pls do so...........you other morons **** right off.

Fozza fair reply, If I'm right he wont play next week......then the game or 2 after that he'll be down against his average until he goes back on autopilot spitting out scores we all come to expect from him. but in the meantime Swan has 165 and will definately go 130+ on that form I'm willing to say against Nth as there is no one to run with except rawlings ( but 5 day turn around/ red eye flight plus 30 degree heat) I'm will to bet a 130 + score going Swans way barring injury.
Its sounds as though many of you went Swan/Bartel against Selwood/Pendlebury thats great I went the other.
But with the Selwood - Swan scores Im looking at end of season......what 250-300 point differential end of season and thats what Im concentrating of most, because I'm aiming to have the very best score I can get end of season...... I can reduce that 250-300 differential by taking Swan now, yes I lose a trade and yes selwood is a premium but come weeks 3-4 there will be some extra trading activity going on anyway.

Buy low sell high!!

it's amusing to read opinions of novices...occasionally we can help

a) if Selwood doesn't play this week you have Swallow to cover right? don't you?
b) keepers are keepers..you cannot worry about price fluctuations with keepers - over the season their consistency rewards you..Selwood WILL be consistent
c) you may need a sideways trade for a LTI to a keeper through the season
d) Selwood is one week at the most

BE very careful of knee jerk reactions at the beginning of the season. What if Selwood backs up with 120+ games in a few weeks? Selwood ~ pendles~ murphy - judd they're all around the mark - no point sideways any of them after round one

BUT hey, do what you want..it's your team lol

For me I swapped pendles to selwood at the last minute to balance out the byes at this early part of the season..not worried at all..
