This has gotten lost amongst all the pre-trade week talk. Does anybody know if he will be re-signed? (or if he has already!)

I think he finally showed the signs of a settled and confident footballer this year and, with a full season under his belt next year, could easily become a 30 - 40 goal kicker. Give him a two year deal IMO.

Thoughts?

He had another case of a blocked blood vessel behind his knee, only this time in his other leg. That's why he didn't play against Brisbane.

His leg would go numb, which might explain why he was so loath to kick the ball in the last few rounds of the season. In the assistant coaches' report they mentioned his lack of confidence in his body late in the season. That would be the reason why.

Finding the cause of the problem is the tricky part, fixing it is easy. Once they do I expect Irish to have a monster season next year. I thought he was a revelation at CHF this year.

Sticked under important links on the main Blues board is Carlton list and contract status.

Signed a 2 year contract at the end of 2007, so is up for renewal.

I'd echo what AD said.

I think he took some big steps this year in his development skill wise and decision wise, and in the second half of this year had become a competant CHF.

IF.........and its a big if......we can get him injury free he could easily be in our best 22 next year as a starting CHF IMO.

I agree, just before Fev kneed him twice in the back he was improving evey game. IIRC Setanta said that after getting the first leg done he felt a million dollars, so once he gets the other leg done he should be fine.

Yep, great to watch his development this year

Always been reasonably good at ground level for a big man, but never really presented as a leading forward before. And there's no point having a big man simply playing a small forward role, because a small forward will do it better

But with his marking, even contested marking, he added a really valuable dimension to his game

Hoping he gets over his injury woes and shows the form he did around the period we played the Saints etc. Was kicking goals and providing a good - really good -target up forward

He needs to be traded for sure if we can get something for him. He will be 27 next year and not really in our plans to win a flag you would think. We surely can't have Coke and Ohailipin in the side next year if Warnock,Hampson and Kreuzer there.

You're right.......but Setanta easily went ahead of Cloke this year.........and stop calling me Shirley.

I think he needs to get a bit more self confidence and he'll be a bloddy star. He's big enough to crash packs and if he gets himself fit his future looks very bright:thumbsu::)
was not shy getting his gear off during the Bollywood number

Showed a lot in 2009 but needs to improve his kicking/decision making a lot when playing on quickly from the mark. Shanked too many for mine and needs to do better.

Having said that, we don't currently have any other option that is much better barring Waite :p

Look closer - he shanks less than your namesake. In fact I think he's in our top five for field passing - and can do it with either foot.

He did play on at times when he should have held up the play, but that might come back to confidence in his leg.

I think if get his injuries sorted and is told that he will get an extended run if he concentrates on being a CHF, he has a lot of potential. I think his desperation to get a spot in the side in any position in the past has held him back a little.

I would love to see him just be a CHF & see how good he can be.
