so does that include pre season games.

I think the club will give him more that the MRP

EDIT:

I read the story, If he takes an early plea he will miss the first four matches of the Premiership season, but will still be available for pre-season games.

I agree, it could have been a lot worse (some w***ers in the media wanted him suspended for a year)

This is excellent and a decent length of time for Setanta to work on issues and anger management problems, and now he can get his life and career back on track.

I hope the club doesn't give him more. His contract expires at the end of this year and the club should allow him to prove himself. Only if the players are ok with it, espically Cloke. But reading the article yesterday in the sun, makes me belive he has forgiven him.

After the 4 weeks, Setanta should then spend another 4 weeks in the Bullants b4 he can be considered.

Nick Maxwell getting 3 weeks:thumbsu:.....I can hear the screams, but he has a record though.

Ludicrous decision, king hits are normally 4 weeks, kicking (of any kind, light or not) is normally 6 to 8 weeks.. this decision just says go out and smash your mates unconscious then kick them while they are down because you basically won't get much more for a fair bump like Maxwell's :thumbsd:

4 weeks is a good result for us, the footy club. i dont see why you wanna double it!

Setanta has lost respect from the carlton faithful for 999 weeks, i think thats enough punishment for the lad, no need to put the footy club down any further than the 4 weeks.

I know its probably due to a technicality (and that the club will give hime more than 4 weeks anyway), but still can't understand how Setanta has to serve his suspension (from an intra-club practice match) during the premiership season, but is free to play in the NAB cup, but Maxwell gets suspended during an official NAB cup match and can serve his suspension during the NAB cup.

It should be out of the match review panels jurisdiction.

They do no have cameras at every training session or intra club, so they cannot watch equally over incidents.

If it was a closed session Setanta would not have gotten suspended.

There have been many a "biffo" at training but it has never before gone before the MRP.

Why didnt they at least charge Ackland and Setanta with wrestling when they got into it at training? It was reportable but not big news like this so they just let it go.

There can be no consistancy at all from the AFL here and they should keep their noses out of such matters.

AFL should stay out of club business IMO. Carlton should have had first bite at a punishment. Imagine if a group of players get into a wrestle with punches thrown all round and we were out 6 players for round 1? Would that be appropriate?

Amazing scenario and we can only hope it happens to Collingwood.
AFL rules are in place and I guess they protect the player's in circumstances when teams may take a soft stance. Not sure in this situation if it merits it. In season what would it have copped?
I would love to know what dialect occured between the AFL and Carlton - if any prior to the 4 weeks!
I will try to find out

The other thing is intra-club matches and TV crews being there
I would have thought with new team tactics etc maybe not behind closed gates but at least no cameras would be a good idea. I know it is PR and I know other clubs had spies there but what would be the situation if there was no footage?

What about when Walls told 4 players to beat up another at training when coaching Brisbane ?

Carlton even had a session in the boxing ring this preseason where it turned into a few onto 1 player

Boxing in training itself contains endless counts of striking.

The more you think about this suspension the more ridiculous it is.

If 1 player tripped another at training and it was caught on film should he get suspended by the MRP?

Talk about Pandora's box ( no offence to Pandora or her parents).

The AFL have decided to act over 1 training incident, and we will probably never see another instance of it again :thumbsd:

Normally there aren't umpires at training. The presence of umpires means reports can be made and it's not the first time it has happened.

When I went to an intra club game similar to this a couple years back Libba and Braddles were umpiring and there were no umpires from the AFL.
I have been to others and the umps were always ppl from within the coaching staff.

Are you saying that the AFL supplied umpires for our intra club? If so this would be a very new happpenning, and unusual.

You also say its not the first time it has happenned, I certainly cant remember another, can you give us a specific example ?

Apparently Dermott Brereton was suspended for stomping on Rayden Tallis during an intra club match ... although I thought he was playing for the Swans against the Hawks at the time, but anyway ....

Be careful, if you ask the question if it has happened before, JD reckons you are claiming a conspiracy. He gets so hung up on looking for negatives, he wouldn't recognise a genuine question if it bit him on the arse.

That was a reserves game not an intra club with Dermie and Tallis.....they were not on the same team at the time. He actually stood on his head and would have been called an accident if they were teammates.....I remember the footage well.

Dermie was funny though - does anyone remember him beating the crap out of Tony Hall ( Hawks team mate ) in a State of Origin game ?

I also had a run in with Dermie after the 89 GF......he was just about to kill me at about 3am after the game when Dipper stopped him

He can serve his suspension during the NAB Cup. The further we go, the less weeks he will serve in the real season. It will be up to the recommendation put by the leadership group if he gets any extra suspension from the club. ;)

Yes they did. I've been to intra-clubs before and they've had AFL umpires.

Tony Lockett. It was mentioned in one of the articles.
