Delisted Shane Savage

MENTAL training has played a major role in St Kilda’s come-from-behind wins this year, midfielder Shane Savage says.

On Sunday against Melbourne, a Leigh Montagna goal with 19 seconds to go secured the Saints their fourth victory of the season and Savage said the club’s never-say-die attitude in 2015 is the result of time spent training the mind.

"We’ve had a lot of mind training sessions this year which has helped our belief out on the field and it’s kept us in the game a lot more," Savage told Crocmedia’s Sportsday program on Monday night.

11 possessions and 2 goals for Sav after coming on as the sub against the Hawks.

15 touches against the Dees. All are sublime.

His role seems to have changed since coming back into the side maybe due to the heavy attention he was getting in the backline. Seems to be playing more wing and HF now. Position isn't overly important as long as he's in the team to use that boot of his.

Shane Savage has a killer right boot and is arguably the best kick on our list. He is capable of regularly drilling goals from 50 and beyond and is primed for a big year after coming off a strong finish to season 2015.

New Zealand born Shane Savage is a medium sized midfielder/back flanker with an amazing right foot kick. Savage is a strong line breaker capable of turning the momentum in a game and had a decent season in 2015 but is looking to improve the impact he can consistently have on matches. Savage is mostly utilised around the defensive half of the wing and half back flank with his run and carry often setting up scoring opportunities. Savage also likes to go forward and slot a goal himself kicking a goal every second game on average in season 2015. Shane will look to transition into a more predominant role on the wing where the team can take full advantage of his stellar disposal, while also allowing him more freedom; not having to check his direct opponent as closely as he otherwise would.

With respect to your vote, do you mean best for him individual performance-wise or best for the team in 2016?
Both. Maybe he's personally better on a flank but the team has too many flankers or he's better on a wing but we have other more suitable players. Whichever you think would be most beneficial.

The former in my view but I vote with the year in mind

Thought Sav played well last night - gringo2011 who was at the game made the comment that he was among our best. Sure there were a couple of costly errors, but I like the way he and the backline as a whole are looking to attack at all costs. Someone else (an ITK maybe?) also suggested that Savage is hugely under-rated as an important cog for us and who has the ability to become elite in his role. Look forward to it.

As an aside - how do i get one of those sponsor badges?

Sav's form for Sandy has been very good which has meant he has been given another chance in the ones against the Tigers . He will be an important player with Webster out suspended for two weeks , we will rely on his good disposal to help bring the ball out of defence.

Sav had a very good game against the Tigers . He looked confident and at ease , like he had been playing all year . Took some good marks and provided plenty of drive . He had 22 disposals, 8 marks and 3 tackles and is in great form .

Simply has to play well this week. Even if he does he may find himself out of the side for Webster and then unsighted at senior level for the rest of the year.

In this case he is more likely to be delisted than not. Very tough.

The club has basically preferred the option of moving forward with White and Rice then Savage.
