What type of shaver do you prefer, electric or conventional?

I used to always use an electric shaver, however, after going through two that eventually died (one was a Philips Philishave - a pretty decent model, and the other was a reasonably priced Remington), I was forced to make a rushed purchase of a Gillette Mach3 before work one day.

Since then, I've never looked back. I find that the shave is much cleaner and closer, and I there is less need to shave during the week. There is also less skin irritation and the regrowth is more even.

Likewise, while there is a need to buy blades (which are at least $12 for a pack of 4), and shaving cream, I tend to think it probably works out at a similar cost to having to purchase an entirely new electric shaver every so often.

I can't stand electric shavers. Leaves my skin feeling dry and hard.

Mach3 is the best investment i have made thus far. Leaves my face feeling like it used feel like when i was 15. Also i only shave every second day, wheres with my old razors it was every day.

From a girls point of view, i think conventional.
I have conventional ones in the shower, so each time i shower its habit to run over the armpits and legs. My housemate has an electric one and she is always forgetting to shave - you'd think Tina Turner lived under her arms!!!

It has to be a blade.

Electrics are Ok for a touch up before going out, when you get off a plane etc, but for the morning shave no way.

When we had our conference in Sydney one of our store managers came to breakfast with the little peices of bloody toilet paper stuck to his face and neck. Considering we all had hangovers it was foul! Called him Mac3 for the entire time after that!!! :p

Same, can't stand going out unless EVERYTHING is nice n smooth ;) in fact there r two in the shower 1 has this kewl blade refill thing underneath its stand which is good for lazy ppl like me.

I use a conventional. I don't know why people use electric because they cut themselves - what are they doing to cut themselves? Stabbing the razor in??? Go slowly or carefully, you won't cut yourself! I haven't done it yet - other than a time I was ****ed off and took no care whatsoever. Plus razors make your skin smoother.

Talk about an advertisers dream....

Topic wise I have never used a Electric shaver but I get paranoid with just a tiny bit of stuble so I think I shall stick with the conventional

Conventional. Electric razors give me a rash on my neck that is red raw for about 30 mins. Not a good look going to work on the train I can tell you.

ditto to that, there is nothing worse than having shaving rash first thing in the morning. Shick 3d goes alright, i think they are the same as the mach3.

I use both. There is no option in the poll, therefore I am unable to vote with a clear conscience.

Yes there is. There is an option which says "No preference". That satisfies your needs perfectly.

But I prefer both.

Yes, which would indicate, that you don't have a preference of one above the other. In which case, the "no preference" option is available.

Despite the assumption that "no preference" could be construed as being a preference for neither, and therefore relative to being abstaining from using either, this is apparently not the case.

The crux of the topic, is weighted towards whether or not a person has a preference for one or the other (or not), not as to whether a person prefers to use or not to use one, either, or both of the options.

Yes, Grendel.

Has anyone bought, or used one of those "facial hair groomers" that are designed for various locations and orifices (ie: nose, ears, sideburns)?

I think they look quite bizzarre to say the least . . . not to mention the potential for danger . . .

Yea actually, I have the old nose trimmer gadget that came with a (now departed to the scrap heap) hair trimmer I bought an age ago. Used it too, did the job okay around the ears (hate those hairy ear lobes) but kept it outta the snozz.

Oh and blades over an electric razor easy. Anyone got one of the old cutthroat razors? With the leather strap too! (this thread just gets better and better, leather straps, razors.. better stop now)! :)

You spend way too much time on your appearance you skanky girl. ;)

Julius Caesar apparently had a slave whose job was to pluck out every hair on Caesar's body with a pair of ivory tweezers. Oww
