Anyone read the Sunday times and see Sheeds comment about the frockers being top 8 material?

hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!

Look out Kev, here comes another alien

:D

not taking anything from freo, but the essendon side on the field last night was a joke.... all kids who havent had any experience

throw in lloyd, mercuri, hird, misiti etc in the side and then show me how much like top 8 material freo look

Come on now, you read comments by Sheedy in the Sunday Times and believe them?.

The Sunday Times struggles to maintain any semblance of journalistic credability and it's well known that you take anything said by Sheedy with a grain of salt.

Very little can be read into last nights game other than it might have given some of the Freo boy's a belief in themselves.

I don't think i've ever seen a scrappier, messy game of football than yesterday. It was like Essendon A Division versus Fremantle. Aside from the last quarter, where the dockers' talls got some ball, the skill level was just appalling. I was counting how many times a team strung three kicks and marks together in a single play, and it happened twice in three quarters. Essendon has some excuse i guess, since it actually *was* Essendon A Division, more or less. Fremantle on the other hand, were playing their 'best' lineup, more or less! On the strength of that performance, I don't think freo supporters should be booking their finals tickets just yet...

The pre~season competition means different things to different clubs. To some it is all about membership recruitment, to others a player development opportunity, to others a positional experiment etc, etc.
IMO Freo has used it as a membership drive and to gain confidence. I think they have succeeded in both. They look much better than last year and Connolly deseves credit. How they go in the real season is subjective. The same can be said of WCE and most teams. Only Port, Tigers and Brisbane can be seen to look top notch at this stage. Does that discount Essendon, Carlton etc? No. It means that they along with the rest have it all to prove when the game gets hard, players come back and play in their correct positions, the temperature is lower and six players cant come on and go off all at once.

ps Tim Gossage is an absolute tosser

Yes he is. Gossage comment from last nights game. "Longmuir did magnificently, he just put it right into Croad from behind"... Make of this what you will, i guess its just more evidence that freo is *like that*

I thought Freo looked pretty good last night.

Channel Seven's coverage was really good - but what was with all the flashing lights and Bee Gee music that they had during the match?

Antoni Grover especially looked good. Performed some fantastic moves and almost looked like he was dancing out there.
Very good looking bloke, Grover - looks a bit like John Travolta.

Best Freo match I've ever seen.

Never a truer word.

I remember him doing the occasional after-match function in Melbourne in the early '90s and bignoting himself while talking down to everyone else.

Now he's a big Ken Judge fan and did his best to screw up the recruitment process when we got Woosha and now all of a sudden he's a Freo supporter. Hypocrite and nerd.

I just read that article!!!!!!!!
The headline is an attrocious misquote.

Sheeds said that 'if' Freo played to their ability they could be 'knocking on the door' of the 8.

That is a long way from saying they are top 8 material. And Sheedy is probably correct. With an injury free season and the right attitude, run of the ball and umpires then Freo could be knocking on the door of the 8.

Hey were you doing a Rip Van Winkle last year ?.

The game was in no way full of blinding skillful play, but there were some attricious games last year that make last night look like a showcase for the AFL.

I'd suggest you were wearing your "blinker" glasses.

I read somewhere that Fremantle was created because some people were terrified with the idea that the Eagles were becoming such a powerhouse. They even point their fingers to Kevin Sheddy as the main force behind the push to create a second team in this state. If that is true then Sheedy is their godfather and Freo can't claim they are a genuine WA team but the product of outside influences who wanted to restrict our success. And for all purposes they may have suceeded. If we didn't have the Dockers were do you think all the WA players returning home would be playing now ?

Sheedy came out in 1987 or thereabouts after Essendon lost a game at the WACA, saying there should be a 2nd side in WA

And who cares about Sheedy's opinion of Freo? He can get stuffed. He's a good coach, but he's not half the visionary he's made out to be. Most of the time he just sounds like a grumpy and spiteful old reactionary, but the footy media treat his every utterance like he was crapping golden eggs

i totally agree. And wasn't "The Croadster" looking divine in that ruffled dress and stilletos. Truely a match that will go down in history as a classic :)

I cant stand Kevin Sheedy, he is hyped up to the point where whatever he says becomes front page news. Who cares what Sheedy thinks, his opinion on Freo is no more important than mine. He's no genius coach either.....with the amount of talent Essendon have he actually comes off more as a failure of a coach because Essendon have being so strong the past 3 season yet only have 1 premiership to show for it.

Cant stand him!!
