Hardwick said he tried to play Morton as a 3rd tall and it didn't work, he should've kicked 4 against the Saints after he gave 1 to Cotchin and didn't get payed that mark, I just think Dimma's got it in for him. He plays him at the end of last year in a new role that suits him perfectly roaming from the wing to half forward and thru the middle, then because of some percieved trend of playing 3 tall forwards this year he decides to plonk Morts in the forward line and expects him to be a tall forward, and no surprise he gets dropped rather than put back into his more midfield role, why??

end rant

I think it has more to do with Morton failing to go hard in a couple of contests last week thatn anything else. Remember one of Hardwicks first rules he brought in was when its your turn to go you have to go.

interestingly enough this was pre cursour to last season's holiday in the 2s for Mitch. ;)

If he doesn't rectify it soon, reckon we might see Mitch on the trade table at seasons end.

He should be playing in the middle. He seems to be Hardwick's whipping boy while other players get off scot free after considerably worse performances.

Can anyone point out some specific contests that this speculation is based on?

cant really point them out dude..but give you a tip, have seen Mitch a few times and he is a master at putting in the one arm, to scoop the ball away from a dude putting in the body to make the ball his. Invariably the dude who puts in the body gets the ball and Mitch gets the flick. ;)

On that basis, how does Houli get a game each week.

I watched him last week go one handed several times, including one stinker in the first quarter inside the centre square when he really only went about 30% at it.

he shouldn't be playing if bravery is a criteria.

Yeah, exactly.

He's certainly not a Hardwick favourite.

It's clear Hardwick sees qualities in Edwards that he doesn't see in Morton. Whatever these qualities are, they must be fricken important. I'd be pissed off if I was Mitch; not just because of getting dropped, but mainly because he's had next to no midfield time this season.

This is F***** B*******!!

The guy is in our top 5 players for talent and is getting played in the wrong position! Dominated off the wing last year and now is expected to play FF a position for a 195cm..

Houli is a soft c*** don't mind him as a player but gee he is soft.

Not to mention the talentless hacks who are still getting a game. A few of these guys have played well this year but won't be there long term like Morton should be. They are:

White, Nahas, Edwards, Graham, Houli

White has done an excellent defensive role so far. Nahas, well he tries his hardest. Edwards, cant really defend him... Graham, our best ruck right now. Houli, i dunno... haven't seen much

Puzzling comments IMO.

Essentially he's lazy.
Super talented but lazy.

Showed he can put in for 4 quarters last year but week went missing large chunks of time last week.

His defensive tackling, hardness and pressure was sub standard for a senior AFL footballer and I believe that is why he was rightly dropped.

Accept mediocrity and we'll win another 4 spoons in a row. Take the kid gloves off some of these senior players and demand they perform or go elsewhere or play with Coburg.

I'm hopeful but not convinced that he is a consistent hard contributer that will do all the right defensive pressuring things an AFL forward has to these days.

I agree this is the best football Matt White has played but if he is still in our best 22 in three years we are in trouble. Morton however should be a monty for a player to develop in the midfield where he finished off the year so well.

Nahas tries hard but in the long run is destined to play 60-70 games and get delisted.

Edwards I think can only save himself by playing as a small forward, which I think is his best possie.

Graham is a means to an end at the moment.....

listening to Campbell on SEN morton has gone back to couburg to "settle into one postion"

From the interview I'd say that position will be the wing.

Morton is one of those players who looks s much better in a good side. He would be a cream type player for the pies tonight doing his party trick marks and lack of defensive game.

Its so frustrating to see two blokes in the forward line like Jack& mitch, one trying his guts out and the other not.

Mitch is in trouble when White, Nahas and Edwards are getting a run in front of him. Houli I think will be along side mitch next week too:thumbsu:

Why does this seem to apply specifically to Morton?

If Edwards isn't out next week I seriously wonder how funny the guy must be at training.

Morton risked his career last year by asking to go to the Midfeild and spending 6 weeks at Coburg working at it- and came back and played great on the wing for a couple of games.
It's unfair after that hard work to expect him to be our second key target up forward- bring him back and play him in the midfield like he showed he can.

White, Nahas, King..... you can have one but 3 come on it is a kick in the face.

Nahas - is too weak.
White - is a downhill skier who can't hit a target.
King - Hardnut but still when he doesn't impose himself (like he didn't tonight) he is noticeably useless. Where was the punch on tonight?

IMO we could do a lot worse to drop Nahas and White and bring in Connors and Morton. Play both of them up forward and around the wings. Make sure Morton spends half the game around the ball, and we can always switch Connors down back for Conca.

The amount of Morton situations there were under the pack tonight inside the forward 50 was ridiculous except some of our players couldn't convert...Morton rarely does.
