Posted this in another thread but was curious to understand what others thought of SOS job so far so here goes;

Trying not to get too excited again but after reading about Polson from various sources and seeing what we have drafted in the last 2 years, I get the feeling SOS knows a bit about building and what is required to become an AFL player. Not getting too excited just yet but quietly confident that we are finally in the best hands possible and the legend of SOS might just be rewritten at CFC!

Is SOS good or even the best? Don't know, but it can't be anything but good, to finally have a dedicated List Managers position, at the club.

SOS has been good though and clearly working hard for the club.
Holding his nerve ensuring we didn't let go of Petrevski-Seton (#5) is testament to that.

SOS is a huge improvement on Hughes and Rogers. The starting point is strategy. He has one.

I think his work last year in gaining multiple selections in the top 20 and selecting talls who can play and Cuningham was excellent, as well as bringing in Wright and the GWS 4.

He held his nerve on Gibbs and knew what to do and say when the clubs met on the first day of the Trade period.

Trade this year was all about bringing in Marchbank and preserving our top 2 picks. Astute work to swap picks withnHawthorn. Pickett may overcome his injury and be a good get. With the midfield as it is, Palmer will not go astray.

He got the best out of the Tuohy trade by suggesting to Geelong to get permission to trade next year's first rounder which apparently many clubs didn't know could be done, and getting Smedts who could be a handy player for us.

He holds his boys back from bottom age TAC cup years: Jack played his final year and from my reading Ben will do the same in 2018.

For this year he has gone for midfield class, speed and hardness in SPS and Fisher, and I suspect Williamson too being youngest in the draft class and an elite runner. There is Polson too who apparently other clubs wanted, and Macreadie and Kerr will replace Rowe, Jones and Jacksch.

I am confident he has a good feel for which young players have the tools to make it and are right for us.

I can see a functional forward line next year with The Bolt, Harry, Charlie and Jack surrounded by SPS (who will move to midfield, Charlie too), Pickett, Sumner, Lamb and Wright.

There is work to do, we don't have a second round pick next year, our ruck division is still poor, our midfield after Murphy, Gibbs, Cripps and E Curnow is either new or pedestrian.

So how do we measure success? I suggest our midfield bats deeper, depth players get pushed out of the 22 (White, Rowe, Armfield, Boekhorst, Jones, Buckley, Graham ...), we get a number of games where our young defenders play together (Docherty, Plowman, Weitering and Marchbank) and our young forwards do as well (Harry, Charlie, Jack), Phillips becomes our clear number 1 ruckman (we need to improve on Gorringe and Kreuzer, we'll see if Korcheck comes along).

I feel like I will always have a biased opinion about SOS due to my love of him as a player - hard to let that go!
But thus far I'm very happy with what I'm seeing at both the draft and trade. He appears to be strong in both respects.
He has also brought in that old school ethos of building a solid defence first which we haven't really seen since his playing era.

Go blues!!

Bolton, SOS & Trigg have done a remarkable job within 1/3rd of the 66 game re-build imo.

GWS honestly should win the next 2-3 premierships imo also.

Peaking after that 2-3 season window is where it's at, and i think SOS & Bolton know this.

Impressed - lets get behind the club and set a record membership for 2017!!!

Marchbank Weitering Plowman
Smedts Mcreadie Kerridge
Palmer SPS Pickett
Silvagni Mckay Curnow
Lamb Kerr Sumner

Phillips Fisher Cuningham

Gorringe Wright Gallucci JGM Polson Williamson

That's the Silvagni side of the past two years. Crazy good.
Or just the Silvagni trades..

OUT: Menzel, Yarran, Henderson, Bell, Tuohy

IN: Wright (I reckon this was part of the Menzel deal) Kerr, Phillips, Smedts, Cuningham, Lamb, Sumner, McKay, Curnow, Pickett, Palmer, Kerridge, Plowman, Marchbank

Traded out 3 best 22 players and 2 players who may never play an afl game after leaving the blues for 14 players.

A word of advice to the other afl clubs... Don't deal with SOS

Whilst SOS is obviously an improvement on his predecessors, you have to remember that his role wasn't there before.

It was a mish-mash of Recruiter, Football Manager, CEO and needless to say any 'sound' advice that may have come from the President or board members.....oh......and in some cases the coach may have had some input.....and in the case of Malthouse, maybe a little too much.

There have been many houses of CFC that have done the club proud. unfortunately all with money alot of the time with strings attached.

But House Silvagni is the only house that has done what it has done through grit, determination and just god damn instinctive natural ability paired with unbridled love and motivation to see the club succeed.

The house that SOS will build for his sons at CFC will be strong and the dynasty that he creates will cement his place as the head of House Silvagni ..... Until one of the boys takes over.

its funny but the only two houses in football with such pedigree are House Hird and House Sivagni ..... difference is SOS never cut a friggen corner in his life. Just rolled up the sleeves and got the job done.

I love him and House Sivagni. It would not surprise me in the least that he married Jo because he knew that her genetics and temperament would one day compliment CFC with well rounded and adjusted father sons!

As gods walking the earth go .... SOS is the one I make animal sacrifices to.

It's a bit too early to say. So far it looks like SOS has really got the playing list going in the right direction. When you look at the players he's brought in its easy to see why a lot of us are excited. Only time will tell but I've got a good feeling about SOS and Bolts.

I reckon he has bought in/drafted a dozen 100+ game players from that list. Couldn't complain with that!

Furthermore, Slivagni has given us one very talented lad with two more to come.
We can't expect anymore they have been great in our proud past and will continue and help our resurgence to greatness again.
No matter what may have happened and got muddled it's all over and forgotten.
Great passionate and loyal CFC family and we can't expect any more.
Thanks for everything SOS.
Go Baggers

Not sure that i agree. How did SOS hold his nerve? Are you referring to the marchbank deal?

Yes, as apparently GWS dug their heals in and made things quite difficult.

Of course if push came to shove, we may have let go of Marchbank, but we didn't and the deal wasn't signed off on until the 11th hour.

I highly doubt pick 5 was ever on the table, SOS would have known that's were the real high end talent was in this years draft.
SPS said he toured the club, after the grand final weekend, then meet with Bolton at the combine.
Think after that meeting SPS would have become one of our highest priorities.
