I just brought a new CD and as always went to remove the sticker from the front.
It ripped, it smudged, it made the cover look old and dirty.

This is not the first time. Stickers on CD's is an old problem that just wont go away.

I'm calling on all CD stores to abandon the sticker on CD tactic and place the stickers on a thin layer of plastic surrounding the CD.

Not a fan of stickers, however I think wrapping the album in another layer of plastic is a bit excessive.

The massive Sanity ones are a joke, they take up a quartar of the cover. Also I've given up buying from Big W thanks to their instance on covering the case in their spiderman glue stickers at the counter.

I think they should just use stickers that will actually come off without leaving half of it behind, or just a sticky mess. Surely that's possible.

Otherwise, I like the layer of plastic wrap idea. Not terribly environmentally friendly I suppose, but dammit I want my CD covers clean and nice. :o

What about when you get the cd that IS wrapped in d*ckhead (i.e me) proof plastic which for a bloke who is all thumbs is just a joy to get off, only then to STILL have to contend with the freakin stickers UNDERNEATH the plastic!! Thats just taking the piss!!

JB are the worst for this.

But yeah, stickers on soft cover digi packs in particular is just not on.

That's the price JB pays for keeping the CD in the case...but you're right, they could put the tag on afterwards...they are very good with the digipacks, I find, every sticker remains on the plastic, not on the actual case.

I prefer the plastic wrap, to be honest...means my CD case is more likely to be in good condition. It is annoying to unwrap them all though...I can't leave JB without purchasing at least 3-4 CD's...

HMV is generally the best- they have the wrapping but they only have one sticker which is very easy to pull off.

If you buy from places like K-Mart, they have this tape all around the edges. Now that is worse than the stickers!

The other day I bought Saw on DVD. The case had a lock thing on it which I couldn't get open. I had to get a knife and cut through the case to get the DVD out then find a new case for the DVD.:thumbsd: Maybe it was one of Jigsaw's games. How badly do I want to watch it?

I thought most places do? I know the stickers at HMV and Sanity (both the big price ones on the front, and the little barcode ones on the back) are not really paper-based, so unless you are reckless it should peel off very easily without leaving a mark. If you're struggling, just ask someone with nails to do it, and they'll be able to flick it up at one end and pull it off no worries.

if it leaves half the sh*t behind grab a tissue and put some eucalyptis oil on it and rub it on the leftovers, does the trick usually

THe soft cover one was from Sanity.
It was a shoker. I definetly didnt recklessly peel it off. I cant believe how bad it was.
The other CD I brought was from JB and that was not that bad. It left a mark but nothing compared to the other sticker. Although the sticker was under the plastic layer:(.

stickers is one thing, how about the falty designs on some of the jewel cases, the double CD's in particular. Even by taking care these things snap and break more often than not. When will they ever learn?

Also don't you hate it when you open your case and the CD falls out of slides between the opening and gets scratched?

Alot of improvement is needed in these areas, it costs next to nothing to produce these things too.

On plastic cases, peel stickers off by hand, then a bit of eucaplyptus oil and a guitar pick to scrape the gunk off, unless you're looking to ebay something, in which case you just get a case thats in better condition.

Those "nice price" stickers are a bugger when trying to flog something on ebay for more than you bought it for. :D

Soft cover CD's? Can't help ya. Those things suck arse, because they are so easily damaged (fraying etc).
