Gains For 2005:
David Lucas (Corowa-Rutherglen)
Neil Marshall (Returns)
Doug Roberts (Claremont-Not yet cleared)
Scott Matheson (Burnie)
Matt Brooks (Gosnells)
Aidan Parker (Adelaide)
Jay Campbell (Corowa-Rutherglen)

Losses:

Richard Ambrose (Corowa-Rutherglen)
Jon Wyllie (Year off)

Hopefully the mighty Maroons can win back to back flags with not too many player losses.

However, most of the other clubs have bolstered their playing ranks with some reasonable recruits.

Some key recruits include:
Ryan Mackenzie from Corowa-Rutherglen to East Perth
Gary Jones from Maffra to East Perth
Andrew Mills from Sandringham to East Perth
Lucas Fielding from VAFA to East Fremantle
Dan Jordan from VAFA to East Fremantle
Ryan Ablett from Cranbourne to East Fremantle
James Davies from Bendigo to East Fremantle
Ben Cunningham from Fremantle/Claremont to Peel
Greg Sanders from Myrtleford to Peel
Graham Fruean from Albury to Peel
Nick Gieschen from Port Melbourne to West Perth
Daniel Wulf from St Kilda to Swan Districts
Craig Callaghan from St Kilda to Swan Districts
Garth Taylor from North Ballarat to Swan Districts
Leigh Sheehan from Williamstown to South Fremantle
Justin Crawford from CBC to South Fremantle
Nathan Ryan from Horsham to Perth
Dan Leslie from North Albury to Perth
Jarrod Kayler-Thomson from Mansfield to Perth
Warren Carlisle from Coburg to Perth

Ryan Mackenzie has been impressive so far for East Perth with his strength and physicality.

It will be interesting to see how some of the others go.

Ben, what was your take on Ben COlreavy from Claremont last year? He has joined my team over here in SA and so far, looks SANFL standard.

Jimmy, Colreavy is a good ballgetter but his disposal can be untidy.

I wouldn't say he was in the top bracket of players over here but he was handy and a goer!

Maybe he could be used as a run-with player.

Parker will be a great player for you guys, he was great for us when we got him mid-season, we really would've liked to have kept him down at the bay......ahh well....don't know anything about your other recruits though....

Yeah Parks was quite young when he left us for Adelaide, so it will be interesting to see how he has developed.

On a brighter note for Glenelg, I think Troy Butcher is certainly a good recruit.

Tall for a midfielder, able to do some out of the ordinary things on the field, good player for East Perth consistently.

cheers mate. I have seen one internal trial and i picked those same characteristics. Gets plenty of it, some hard ball, some receiving and his disposal was often poor. But he is something we can work with and need.

Jimmy, from the vision I have seen on fox, the SANFL is a 10 percent better standard competition than the WAFL right now.

Some South Australians probably think I am being charitable to the WAFL but I am not.

It is the lack of crowd support for the WAFL which is the main difference.

Although we have experienced reasonable attendance increases each year since 2002 thankfully.

So a top class WAFL player should make it in the SANFL.

Just a side note. I have a Sturt guernsey at home that I have kept from my teens.

Was always impressed that Sturt had the SFC on the front of the guernsey like Subiaco does.

Odd to note that some Sturt people have a soft spot for East Perth according to some postings I have read here and there.

The East Perth guernsey is more like Norwood's I reckon.

Anyway, good luck to the double blues in 2005 Jimmy!

cheers...i must admit, i havent really followed the wafl that great a deal, but always checked the scores and watched the games on fox when thye are on. I think a few years ago, i decided i needed to pick a team, and that team was south freo for some reason. I think i was watching a game on tv over here several years ago and thought they did ok, so i went with them. One of our lads, benet copping has been taken by EP or EF i think so we will keep an eye out for him.

good luck to subi again this year too mate.
