I know we are heading towards 6 years since this fiasco occured, with many punters denied some big payouts offered on the sydney and brisbane quaddies.
I am aware that there is a legal firm who have taken on board the case, and was wondering if people have been contacted yet to join the class action, and if so what has occured thus far.
Interested in peoples thoughts if they are involved, or perhaps, if they have forgotten about it, i can send you in the right direction as well.
Let.me know

I vaguely remember it.

The questions I have are:

  1. Did any customers use their TAB ticket at an EBT to take their cash out? This would have given them a voucher, allowing them to cash in the voucher over the counter to collect their funds.

  2. How many customers used their cash out figure to place other wagers on their TAB account?

In relation to the first question, customers who had their online accounts frozen may be able to successfully argue that customers who used their TAB ticket to collect their cash out funds were able to collect their cash out offer so by right those with online accounts should also be able to withdraw their funds.

In relation to the second question, you could reasonably argue accounts only placed a series of other wagers believing they had available funds to do so.

I can see this from both perspectives. Very interesting. A class action is likely to result in a successful outcome. I don't know why class actions don't occur more often. It's a lot easier to beat City Hall through strength in numbers. Rightfully or wrongfully, a large company could actually be worse off long term by refusing to honour payouts. The negative publicity this will generate will potentially tarnish their reputation.

It all happened during Covid , so it was all on line betting via the TAB app .
The cash out offers for the quaddie ( particularly in the sydney quaddie) where the 3rd leg , Nettoyer, paid around $50, hence inflating the cash out offers on the day.
I personally was affected by acceptance of the payout, and then having accounts frozen.
But yes, there is a class action happening right now as we speak after 6 years . I guess if anyone was affected by it and wanted more information, please dont hesitate to reach out and i will point you in the right direction

Did they do anything after they realised the error to try and recover it.

Like offer the correct cash out payment or pay out on winning the quaddie if you had the 4th leg, whatever was higher?

They didnt pay out the full quaddie as a lot of us accepted the cash out offer amount before the final leg( mine being 6 figures) . I was offered 5 x $50 bonus bets as a good gesture but they were simply an acknowledgement of possible error.

I get you accepted the cash out offer. But that was a clear error.

Did they offer an amended cash out amount that would have been the correct amount at the time or just the bonus bets?

For me, account was frozen, and reinstated a week or so later with bonus bets sitting in the account, no phone calls, nothing
