Two matches tomorrow night:

Eastern v Oakleigh at Fred Geale Oval Croydon 5.30pm
Northern v Calder at Cramer St 5pm

I'll probably drop in on Northern v Calder, looking forward to seeing those two teams. Calder have won their previous practice matches fairly easily from all reports, while Northern seem to have a decent group of returning players as top agers this year. Also, with a new coach it will be interesting to see how they go there.

Anyone going to either of those games?

Wouldn't have a clue to be honest. I went to Cramer St, there was a 5 quarter game (effectively a game of 30 mins x 2 and another of 20 mins x 3). Half the list seemed to play in one or the other games, a few blokes played a bit of both. No scoreboard was going either. They were hardly conventional matches.

The only thing I really got out of it was a bit of a look at a few players, Calder had a heap of teamlists for the spectators, the Knights didn't bother and they wore different numbers to their final list as well.

Joe Gazzo from Calder kicked a few goals, small forward 172cm and 68kg. Sam Robertson from Calder played deep in defence, that was an interesting role for him. He'd want a good year given he was in the AIS/AFL academy. A big kid called Teaukura Paiti (presumably Mauri background) 190cm and 86kg actually came off clutching his knee and took no further part, hopefully not too bad an injury, but he crunched a few blokes with really strong tackles before that. Also gave the footy a decent fist at a few stoppages. He's going to be one of the interesting players in the comp this year no doubt about that. If you believe the stats provided on yesterdays list regarding his height, Shane Neaves has actually shrunk since draft camp (199.0cm at draft camp to 198.1cm now - figure that out). Saw Matt White do a few nice things, including kicking a good on the run goal. He looks to have added a few kgs since last year.

Can't comment too much about them yesterday specifically although others on their list who I'd like to see more closely include Jesse Silver, a kid from Assumption I think who was playing seniors as a year 9, Brad Allen, being very top age (January 1987) probably goes against him slightly although he's got plenty of upside, Richard Douglas and also Gareth Bowes who impressed me a few times late last year.

I can't comment much on the Knights given there were no team lists floating around for everyone, seemed like they only gave them to the scouts.

jesse silver got cut from calder . shane neaves played a good game and that matt white did a few good things like a goal on his left foot under pressure good goal looks the likely type of player that would get drafted neaves killed them in the ruck . jackson from knights had a good game but he was really the only one to stand out from the rest of em who are average . The 2nd game was disgraceful!!!!!!!!

yer.. its true he got cut i go to skool with matt white and a few other calder boiz and they wer all shocked as u are.....the reason was unknown

he knew he had 2 perform going into the game or else he would get cut and he didnt perform so they cut there were a couple of others under that pressure too.

Interesting, and he's also now been taken off the TAC Cup lists on the Football Vic website.

Footyman........surely it must have been for some reason other than his football ability. The kid has some very tidy skills. Having seen the last 2 Calder practice games, IMHO he was a better prospect than 40% of the players on Calders list. Something is very fishy.
