A LAWSUIT filed by an obese New Yorker against four leading US fast food chains is testing whether the food industry can be held responsible for health problems in the same way as tobacco firms.

Caesar Barber, 56, filed suit yesterday against McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's and KFC who he accuses of being responsible for his 1230kg frame and a series of heart attacks.

Barber, who began eating fast food in the 1950s, said the major chains had been deceptive in presenting nutritional information about their products.

"They said '100 per cent beef.' I thought that meant it was good for you, he told reporters.

"Those people in the advertisements don't really tell you what's in the food," he said. "It's all fat, fat and more fat. Now I'm obese."

1230kg???!?!?!? sheeshh...
hopefully the judge will throw this bullsh*t of a case out the door...
if he wins... whats he gonna spend the settlement money on?? haha

What a f*ckin joke. Why can't people take resposibility for their own actions? After all the publicity about eating more healthy foods. Plus he is an apparently 'mature' man, so he should have known. I hope the fat c*nt has a heart attack   My dad is like 53 and he is one fit bastard for his age compared to Mr Barber. You would think he his at least in his early 40's or even less.

I am getting sick of hearing people trying to make money out of their own stupidity, a guy dives into the sea while drunk, breaks his neck & wants to sue saying the council should have warned him it was dangerous, is another one that gets my goat.

Bloody hell people we all make choices & if we make the wrong ones then tough t***ies.

myee8, is your Dad single, sounds like a bit of a hunk. :D

That weight cannot be right.

It is a bloody joke! Everyone knows what eating too much crap food is dangerous for your health. What, did he think that his expanding girth and constant eating weren't connected? Sheesh.

I have ZERO sympathy for people who have health problems bought on by their own inaction. It'd be different if he had some kind of glandular problem that caused the obesity.

haha just heard it on the news that is one of the biggest loads of crap ever:p

And we wonder what's wrong with today's society.

I am something of a moderate smoker...if I am diagnosed with cancer or heart disease or any ailment due to my habit it is my own sweet fault.

I shall neither sue nor complain.

Our fat friend should do the same.

Mixed thoughts about this - I see no difference between this and the people who sue tobacco companies. And I don't think they deserve to get any money. There has been plenty of information about the dangers of smoking and fast food, if they've chosen to ignore that, therefore they don't deserve to get money for it. I won't say they deserve what they get, because I don't think that's true - just like saying someone who drives near a black spot and gets killed deserves what he gets. However they have taken a risk, and made their choices, and need to deal with those consequences.

Now, having said all that, these companies have presented false information, and deserve to fry (excuse the pun.) Fast food companies continually advertise something very bad for the health and make it look glamourous. Just the way tobacco companies have done so. They delibrately don't make the nutrition information readily available, you have to ask for it. I must admit that they don't claim that the food is harmless, but they do all but.

I have no idea what the facts are, but what are the stats of the incidences of obesity compared with lung cancer?

If I was the judge, I'd simply laugh my guts up, until the fat halfwit left the court in shame.

Or, more likely, until he got the forklift driver to come and pick him up, and drive him from the court in shame.

I mean, 1230kg? At the very least, wouldn't that be a hint to not upsize that burger combo?

He should look at the bright side - I hear the Swans are looking for a new full forward, and this guy almost weighs as much as the last one :D

Particularly since, in Australia, it is My Tax Dollars which fund the Medicare system. I do not believe My Taxes ought to be wasted on the stupid.

A similar line of thinking provides a very good justification for the amount of tax on the average pack of cigarettes. It is, after all, the aging smokers who will be drawing the most from the public health system.

I think he's not actually anywhere near that big - closer to 123kg I think, not much fatter than your average everyday obese guy, only suing because of the heart attacks he's had.

Will Tony Shaw be asked for a comment on him?

Anyways, saw him on the news...certainly isn't 1230kgs. Was tucking into some takeaway on camera.

It's not really the insurance companies who will lose money, they never do. It's the community organisations, businesses and sports clubs who will face yet another premium increase on their public liability insurance; just to line the pockets of this fat, immoral, money-grabbing opportunist.

It says he is 123kg's....Somebody on BF just added the extra 0 for effect!;)

123kg doesn't sound so bad...?!

I mean, I am a pretty big guy and I weigh about 100kg, I am pretty chunky but I am not fat. I mean, I can play sports, I am pretty fit, 123kg is pretty big, but not enough to make a guy blame a company due to his OBESITY.

P.S my Dad is one of the fittest guys I know and he is almost 110kg!
