When we saw him chase chase chase and tackle Geelong opponents to the ground on the wings most of us probably didn't know he was carrying a shoulder injury at the time. He was in pain and Terry kept him out there to teach him to play through it the way a Kerr would play through it.

When a player is in pain and is concerned about their shoulder it is inspiring to see him sprint and wrap his arms around the ball carrier and tackle him into the dirt for holding the ball. Just going into a tackle knowing your shoulder hurts and then having the mental strength to put full pressure on anyway is inspiring to watch and a true indication of the dedication and heart on display by one of our players.

He came to training with his arm in a sling today.

Tambling is the future.

when did tambling hurt his shoulder?
and when he laid those tackles had he already hurt his shoulder?
but i agree with u, tambling is the future. i think the media has been to harsh on judging him and comparing him to the lower pick of franklin. make that decision in 4 years time and it will be acurate.

Tambling was injured within the first 10 minutes im pretty sure.

He also had a knee brace on 5 minutes in.

He injured his shoulder very early btw and had bandaging on it.

It has taken me all evening to respond to many of the messages tonight .... I have never been so frustrated with the events of the past 24 hours. That having been said, Nathan Foley, Matthew Richardson, Graham Polak and Cleeve Hughes ... guys you can hold your head up (and three of you are the nucleus KIDs).
It so frustrates me to see our other younger (smaller bodied) KIDs get pushed around ... with no one prepared to stand up for them .... Lids was attacked from the start by Geelong and no one was there for him ... Blings shoulder was injured when a cat midfielder cannoned into his back after he had kicked the ball ... no one stood up for him .... and when three cats jumper on Lids in the third quarter the only one there to help him was Jacko (who by the way stood nose to nose with Scarlett and didn't back down one inch .... he's a Kid also right?). When Plough said we lacked depth in the 23-26 year age group I think what he really meant was that the guys that were in that group were not prepared to put there bodies on the line ... this puts the KIDs at risk ... they need protection ... everyone talks about JUDD .... give me Luke Hodge first at least he would supply some real 'grunt' in the middle.
Whilst penning the mesage I was scrolling through our list .. could not find any powerful mid-fielders (the old Strong Bodied Ruck Rover type) to bring in as the 'enforcer' we simply cannot install any 'fear' into the opposition at the moment ... and when we do get a run on they simply go 'man-on-man' and our smaller bodied kids are simply pushed out of the way ..... I think it may be a long year and we will certainly see which of the 'KIDs' stand up under the scrutiny of physical initimdation.
One final commet .... what Gaspar did was not club and team focused (retiring rather than playing the year out in the two's ... show some spirit and develop the kids the best way possible by showing them on the ground in the heat of battle) BUT what the club did to him and Andrew Kellaway (two of only three All Australians) was inexcusable and showed a complete lack of respect for team and club morale:(

Yeah, I remember seeing him running off with the arm basically motionless pretty early on...and I was thinking "oh we're screwed now", even though I hadn't seen Simmo or Jay go off yet...

Then saw him later with a dirty great bandage on his shoulder.

Probably necessity brought him back on, but he didn't take many backward steps despite his injury. Funny how the media couldn't wait to get the boot into him, completely ignoring his clearly injured state...

do u guys rate tambling? or think it was a bad selection after seeing buddy's performance on the w/e

From what I've seen Tambling will be our best young star followed by Riewoldt. It's hard to judge before they break out (if they do) but if you put all the pieces together Tambling is our most likely elite midfielder. There's never any certainty but I rate him our best young talent.

what about Deledio. i think lids is a better athlete aswell.
but yes i agree u cant judge them yet. have u seen riewoldt play benny_furs?

Many times :)

Riewoldt gets me very excited RPM!

Comparing Deledio with Tambling is difficult, I tend to go by a lot of outside influences rather than just what they've done on the ground (although that plays a large role too, especially their roles in their junior days).

Pros for Tambling. Captain NT team. Moved to Melbourne with pregnant gf at 18 years of age, copped successfully, loves Melbourne enjoying fatherhood very much and the fear of missing home (especially for aboriginal boys) was replaced with a love for the RFC. Before being drafted he was getting 35+ possessions, 12+ clearances, 10+ tackles, 2-3 goals in single games of footy. This shows not only an ability to be a prolific ballwinner, matchwinner, outside running speed and skill machine, but he has clearance and tackle figures that rival most inside midfielders! In his league tacklers were rare, so what does he do? He takes it on as an artform and although he didn't have to at the time he taught himself how to tackle fiercly, and many times per game and the only one on his team doing it. This shows immense dedication to making him the best he can be, and shows he is willing to be better than he HAS to be - a quality NOBODY on our list has shown in the last 10 years (eg Joel Bowden who had the talent but not the drive to better himself).

In Tambling's first year with Richmond, overcoming many difficult obstacles (including major lifestyle changes and stress), he endured injury and a sick grandmother (who raised him and was all he had)... yet he still had the focus to keep his mind on footy. Mental strength wins flags and builds culture. In matches in year one I would see him make a mistake and he would be seen fuming and get up running. 5 minutes later the same thing would happen, but this time he did it differently and won the ball. I saw this several times and instantly believed he had the drive to match the talent.

He has always been a midfielder. He was rated the #1 draft pick for most of 2004 and regarded the most electrifying player of the draft.

Deledio on the other hand is brilliant and has always been a utility. He played all his footy either on the wing, HBF, or at FF. He had stints in the midfield which had mixed reports. Lids is a more talented style of player to Joel Bowden imo with a lot more drive and pace. He won the NAB Training Challenge this year with Tambling in the top 4, so both have the drive off field too.

It's a matter of time before their character and mental strength prove to be successful qualities. Buddy has had many big questions raised on his character and in the long term who knows what he'll be. All I know is that playing through the pain barrier and actually tackling mature hard-bodied Geelong blokes WITH a damaged shoulder is an excellent indication of what we can expect from Tambling as he runs onto the MCG one day in a Tiger Grand Final.

You sure are a positive person... you been supporting Richmond long? :)

After what i've and most 25+ year old supporters have been through it's hard to stay upbeat.

I'd say before the last round of matches even the most negative of supporters would have said they were excited about Tambling's future.

Then Buddy kicks 9 and Bling does little because he plays injured. Tambling wasn't far off equalling Nathan Brown's brilliance of 5 goals in 1 quarter remember, this week we didn't see a dominant display but what we did see was a sign of his courage and heart. Btw I'm not a positive person, I just talk about some things I am positive about (Tambling, Riewoldt etc). I would be more than happy to talk about Raines and Tuck but I doubt those opinions would be well recieved :)

For what it's worth, i think Tambling is going to be a decent player for the tigers. I suspect he might be one of those Steve Milne types, could be quiet for half a game then kick 2 goals and set 2 more up in 10 minutes. He won't be a Judd, but he wasnt drafted to be one either.

Comparing him with Franklin/Roughead/etc is a waste of time. Different players and ANYONE can draft better players with hindsight.

Interesting points about players with courage and hardness. Let's hope the Tige's can start getting a few of them!

Deledio also dislocated his finger late in the 3rd quarter IIRC. He started getting the ball after that...Good signs for 2 young guys to ignore injuries.

He didn't get a kick before that and only had 1 possession... you've done well to find a positive out of his game lol

tackling isnt very courageous... geting the hard footy is courageous and im sorry but Tambling wont be a player to get the hard footy

I reckon we can begin this judegment next year. My reasoning behind this is that he missed his whole first year bassically through injuries. ONly played 5 or so games where as Buddy Played a lot more. So at the moment Buddy is a good season ahead in experience

Tackling with a bloody injured shoulder is courageous! For a kid that skinny to stay on the ground, let alone bring down men, repeatedly, is courageous.

If you don't think Tambling can win the hard footy then you simply don't know what type of player he is yet. You'll catch on within a couple of months...

I think this thread deserves a timely BUMP given a few supporters have labelled him "soft" for being hit in the head.

Tambling is definately not soft. I even saw him having a go at the senior Essendon players giving them pushes and bumps off the ball - the kid is tougher than his body size would suggest ;)

When he matures he'll have a physical pressence about him, there is absolutey no doubt about that.

I don't label him soft I just think he should be dropped to the VFL for a couple of weeks for purely football reasons based on last night (he's not alone). Doesn't get enough of it, isn't damaging when he does and ends up turning it over when under pressure. He could do with some confidence and an extended run in the middle for the Burgers. The whole issue at the moment is he just doesn't have the bulk to play in the middle and is thus forced to play on the flanks or on a wing where he doesn't find it enough and doesn't use it well enough. He's shown spurts (first quater against WC) but he just needs to find some confidence in his skills and some consistency thats why I'd send him back to Coburg.

Wow he was pushing and giving some Essendon players some bumps of the ball.

You're an absolute joke benny. :thumbsd:

I thought Tambling was pretty good last night. Had 16 or 17 touch's. Probably should have kicked 3 goals, so should have lids, which means he is at least getting the ball in dangerous spots. Cannot remember any turnovers? But i was half tanked. Has been playing a bit in the centre and looks alright in there.

He lost some momentum after the geelong match. He had been getting better and better. But i really happy he seems to be quickly building up again.

Does anyone know his total game time?? I think he is a bit behind Lids in terms of fitness so still needs another preseason.
