What are your guys gut feel in terms of Tenace's tradeability?

Do you think Geelong would consider parting with him in a deal to get Ottens?

And is there any reason why you could see he would be expendible above other young Cat midfielders?

Also why wasn't he playing at years end - injury or just faded out?

Cheers.

I'd consider a trade involving Tenace but I doubt Thompson would.

I'm not sure about a straight swap with pick 7 though.

He didn't play a lot of the midseason games, probably a form slump but came back for the last couple of home and away games and played well, especially against Freo. Thompson most likely wanted to ease the guy into senior footy his first year.

He played the first 10 or so games and then picked up a bit of a niggle (can't remember exactly what it was) and he spent time in the VFL. He came back for the last few rounds before getting dropped for "experience", read Spriggs , for the finals.

Overall a pretty stock standard Thompson strategy with a first year player, pretty much mimics the first years of Ablett and Bartel.

To those who know:

Is that 16, 32 Enright and Gardiner offer credible? It seems pretty fair for both clubs.

You sir, have demonstrated you are an out and out fool.
Thank god you are nowhere near our players or recruiting dept.

FAIR!!! HOW IS THAT FAIR????

Exactly what I want to know. No way would I go for that deal.

I find it quite hypocritical of Richmond that they wanted Ottens to take a pay cut cos they had been paying him on potential and he hadnt delivered, and now that he wants out they are saying

"He has lots of potential, and coming to his prime and he will be a great player for whoever picks him up"

So now we have to trade on his potential rather than what he has delivered, quite pathetic from the folk at Richmond, but they will get what they want in the end.

I still say...Pick 16, Spriggs and Enright for Ottens.

It seems very fair to me...They aren't players that had a big impact on our side and we get someone who has the ability to help us be flag contenders! We strengthen our side considerably.

We have to give up something. If Ottens was a nobody our recruiting staff wouldnt have offered that deal.

Enright has not had the opportunity to have an impact on the team this year due to injury, and when he has played he has been good. Gardiner has only played 30 games and is not yet consistent, but has showed some flashes of what he can produce. These players will be worth a lot more next year to us, as players or to trade but we will get ripped off by trading them this year.

You cant put "untouchable" signs on Gardiner and Enright. You stand to be screwed on every single trade you do, so its a matter of oppurtunity cost. Enright Gardiner could be good players, but are they going to be the difference between winning and losing a flag? No. Pick 16 and 32 are good picks in a draft that is a little light on and we are good for young talent.

Cats fans what do u want to give up then? This Ottens deal seems very fair. Seriously the notion that David Spriggs + 1st rounder will get us Ottens is ludicrous.

We give up something that is replacable (Gardiner, Enright) to get something that we cant replace (Ottens). Seriously this deal is very fair.

Good post.

Is Ottens going to be the difference between winning a flag?
He may well be another Spinks, White etc.
The jury is out on his quality and durability.
Just because he was a number 2 pick 7 years ago, does not mean he is worth anywhere near that now.
His performances over the last 3 years suggest he is not close being worth a trade for 2 first round picks.

Sure doing that trade could BUT its worth a try because Ottens even at his worst is probably a walk up starter at our club. Ottens has potential and it wouldnt be that hard to go stale at Richmond. A fresh start and he will be capable of helping us win the flag. He wont win it, he will help.

He is a calibre above Spinks and White and his ability and potential cannot be questioned.

Rubbish.

You make Ottens out to be the bloody messiah, which he quite frankly may very well not be. What makes you so sure Ottens is 'the difference'?

I said contenders. Ottens is the best person on the market this year and we need to do everything we can to secure a player like him within reason.

Im not saying he is the messiah but he certainly will help and were giving expendable things. I don't see how were going to get another first round pick if we didnt trade those type of players anyway. Its a fair deal and i hope the tigers accept it.

A greater individual is destined for such a role..

I'm not giving up 2 draft picks and 2 players. That's ridiculous.

Enright and Pick 16.

I'm not too keen on Charlie going. I like him as a player and think he'll really come on next year, but Enright is part of a midfield group that has a number of players who have usurped him for a spot in the starting 22.
