My aim is to provide the BEST service for my BigFooty mates! (But if Hewitt wins... I'm outta here! LOL)

I'm retired Dip. Go to sleep in the early hours of the morning so I can communicate with all of you in Oz!

Don't you remember the after midnight matches at the Aus Open the past few years?

HEWITT WINS

HEWITT WINS!!!!!!

Hewitt was very gracious in his interview on centre court right afterwards.

It was a fantastic match. A well deserved win for "Big Bad Lleyton" ;) :D

Final scores : 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4

YEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! You little Aussie beauty! What a fantastic effort! I bet the New York hacks will be annoyed about that...ruins their story!

And he plays Kafenilkov next round...what a grudge match that will be!

Yayyyyyyy!!!

Thanks very much Chicago1 for keeping us all up-to-date. Can you list the final scores then, please (did he win the last set 6-4? I assume so).

What a match.

very controversial decision probably gave way to any chance Roddick had of winning.

Dissapointing the crowd booed at the end, but as one of the commentators said hopefully it wasnt at Hewitt, rather at the umpire (which i still think is wrong, but it wasnt Hewitts fault the umpire overruled the ball)

What's better than beating the Yanks?

Beating the Yanks when they think they have been hardly done by! :D :D :D :p

What colour was the umpire/linesman who made the call by the way? Just out of interest? Wouldn't it be ironic if he was black!

The linesman ruled it in, and the umpire said it was out even though it was on the other side of the court and the replay showed it was waaaaaay to close to call, especially from the other side.

I think both involved where white :p i didnt take notice

LOL

The umpire was of Latin culture. And I'm NOT talkin' the 'Ave Maria' kind! :D

We'll see who's smilin' at the end of the weekend, GOALden Hawk!

Go Kafelnikov! ........... I just might have lost my American citizenship for "rooting" for a Commie!!! :D

Yavgeny is a sourpuss...he is extremely umpopular in Australia. This is mainly due to his whinging about the court during a Davis Cup tie a couple of years back, when he said the court was like a potato field and didn't have enough grass. John Newcombe replied with "Well it's got the same amount of grass as Wimbledon does in the 2nd week, but I guess Yevgeny wouldn't know about that!" HAHA - gotta love it.

Then Kafelnikov complained players weren't paid enough at this year's Australian Open - pretty ridiculous statement when he is millions every year!

Congratulations Hewitt on your win!

In the end...i felt for Andy Roddick. That 'line call' was a total shocker. It pretty much messed him up for the remainder of the game, but there is no doubt, Roddick is a future #1. He has so many gun qualities!!

That potato thing made me laugh when I was in Germany - over there they also hate him and instead of calling him Kafelnikov they call him Kartofelnkopf which is German for Potato head. Very apt I reckon!

Excellent match!! could not get myself away from the tv, even managed to watch the game while i was at the gym!!

The line call on Roddick was a bit rough, but thats the way it goes must admit that Hewitt has a new challenger in the race for the best dummy spits!! hehe!!

Goo Lleyton!!!

I remember that incident GH. Even I would have booed him for that!

I've always liked Todd Martin. He's a real gentleman and well respected by his peers. I remember going to the Aus Open back in about '95 just to see him and Lindsey Davenport play. I liked Davenport because she was such a 'huge' contrast to the petite players of the day and even now. She still had her baby fat and looked quite gangly. I really missed going this year. I was in Florida when it was on and saw Capriatti win. I was so happy for her. She really went through a lot to pull herself back up the rankings.

I don't really have any real favourites now, though I liked what I saw in Andy Roddick tonight. It's too bad about the call in the last game, though I thought Hewitt would just have a bit more than Roddick to win the match. His behaviour has been exemplary since the incident. As I said in the other thread, I hope he learns from the controversy. He hasn't really displayed the fist pumping and yelling since the incident and he's still winning. He'll be able to win back the New York crowd for sure if he keeps it up. I'm even taking a bit more of a liking to him, despite the fact that he barracks for them AWFUL Crows! ;) :D

I presume that the media will get into Roddick about his fist pumping and dummy spit!!

Gotta love the NY crowd - and we thought the Spanish were harsh during the Davis Cup - I loathe crowds that cheer mistakes!!

Cheers

I too couldn't get away from the tv, whichever room I was in I had the tv on!

Say what you like about Lleyton but Roddick has got a far worse temper than him. As for that crowd my god it really shows that they know nothing at all about tennis.
