Let me tell you guys who only watched it at home. I was sitting quite near the action.
Riewoldt got the mark. St Kilda fans were screaming behind me. The siren went! Then the Essendon fans went berserk. We all stood and jumped in the stands, screaming at this guy. The concrete stand was bouncing like a wooden stand - the roof was resonating. We drowned out the St Kilda supporters. The Essendon cheer squad was directly ahead of this guy screaming at him also.

No sooner had the ball left his boot than the Essendon cheer squad waved their flags and banners. In that split second we all screamed - we knew he muffed the kick.

WE WON!!

I don't know how many times we sang the team song. It was wonderful. Floating on air. We sang and sang, and cheered our guys.

In the end, it wasn't talent that won it for the Bombers - nobody had any strength to use talent. It was pure heart, from the guys who were staggering. I'd like to know how many fit guys we had out there - there couldn't have been too many.

Don't let anyone tell you St Kilda lost - they didn't; Essendon won!!

You lucky bastards who got to been there :(

I'm moving to Melbourne and moving in with one of Ben or PP. SYDNEY ****ING SUCKS.
Good, because I wouldn't have taken you anyway. :(

This was going to be my last game for the year; in the end I couldn't go so I could home home earlier to study. Watched it at the pub, and could not contain myself. My arms were literally tingling yet numb when Riewoldt marked; when he missed my eyes watered (:o) and I clapped my hands together so hard that they were ringing for a few minutes afterwards.

Great write-up, VB.

Fantastic tale. Up here on the Gold Coast, I was sitting a sole lonely figure in the corner surrounded by 8 intoxicated Saints fans. Obviously they were quite annoyed and aggressive about the performance of their team. When we finally won, I couldn't suppress a massive "COME ON BOMBERS" which was met by the sternest of glares.
I then legged it and got the f*ck out of there before any trouble ensued. Haha. Oh Bombers, you give me such great memories.

Everyone around me was making so much noise. My voice is almost gone from screaming at Riewoldt to miss. I high fived no less than 10 guys... one old lady got a hug (she should have paid for)... everyone was jumping up and down while singing the song... one of the best games i've been too... although next week i would like to try and not snatch defeat from the jaws of victory... GREAT GAME!

From that same spot Roo didn't kick any goals in the warm up. Mind you if Prismall hadn't hit the post...

I was there on the wing. Gave Lovett a high five after the game when he came over to give a ball to a kid. Lovett was lapping it up - party time.

McVeigh was shocked, shaking his head - he couldn't believe we had won.

I was so relieved when Riewoldt missed.

Relieved was not the word for it - we were euphoric. And you know what? many Essendon supporters even enjoyed the St Kilda song that the saxophone buska was playing because we gave him a raspberry as we walked past.

You could say that justice was done; the second goal that St Kilda scored was a gift from the umpire.

"Don't let anyone tell you St Kilda lost - they didn't; Essendon won!!"

Great Quote. Watching the Dons supporters go '*******' as soon as the ball left Reiwoldts foot was gold. The joy at the ground must of been something. To listen to WATSON intervieiwed after the game (he spoke non stop for minutes on pure adrenilin) was priceless. Wish I was there. Go DONS

I loved it, still lapping it up.

And the buskers were hilarious.

After Qtr time the atmosphere was awesome. So happy I made the effort to go to this game. Crowd was only 41,000 but seemed like alot more.

I was sitting on level 1, aisle 8, Nick Riewoldt right in front of where I was sitting, or standing as it was when the siren went.

I really thought he would kick it, it was so unbelievable that he missed.

That last quarter drained so much mental energy out of me, I feel absolutely shithouse now....but damn I'm glad I was there.
