It's stupid, I click on the top 20 in the league or whatever and it says you have to download the file?? So I click yes, save it to my hard drive, when it's saved I double click on it and nothing happens....absolutely nothing.

So I go back to the site and click on another of their stats options and this time i just say open it up instead of saving it to my hard drive, it finishes downloading and again nothing happens....

Annoying website, does anyone use the website and can anyone give me any hints on how to navigate the stupid website...

Obviousbly the midfielders dominate the top 20 rankings, but if you actually break it down into player types, it's actually quite accurate I reckon......

What they need to do is devise a formula to compensate for the fact that midfielders get so much more of the ball.

just a few stats, which actually have some sought of meaning, the ones i bolded are the ones i thought do have a fair degree of meaning about them

- David Haynes, appears to be the only player in the competition to have missed more than 10 shots on goal
- As a club we have missed more shots on goal than any other
- Michael Gardiner has the most centre bounce hits outs and round the ground hits outs for the AFL.
- Daniel Kerr (3rd) and Chris Judd (4th) are in the top contested ball wins in the competition.
- Chad Fletcher (4th), Ben Cousins (7th) and Chris Judd (9th) are in the 10 clearance winners in the competition.
- David Wirrpunda holds the top places in the list for most rebounds in a match with 21 v Adelaide and 19 v Collingwood
- David Wirrpunda has made more rebounds this year than any other player.
- Ashley McIntosh is fourth on that list with 15 v Geelong
- Ashley McIntosh is 10th in the competition for 1 per centers with 59 (15 knocks ons, 3 shepherds, 40 spoils, 1 smother)
- Ben Cousins holds the equal record for centre clearances with 9 against Port Adelaide
- Ben Cousins has made more handling errors than any other player in the competition
- Ben Cousins (1st with 42) and Chris Judd (2nd with 40) lead the list for leading playmakers in the competition. dont ask me what playersmakers mean, but it sounds good :p
- Chad Fletcher is =6th for goal assists (with 19) and Ben Cousins is =9th (with 16)
- Michael Gardiner has had 57 ruck scoring assists this season. The next highest is Clarke with 41.
- twice this year we have won every quarter of the match (v St Kilda and Brisbane). The only other clubs to achieve this feat twice are Fremantle and Adelaide (Adelaide have won the last 8 quarters they have played in upto this point)
- 12 times this year we have won a quarter by more than 20 points (no team has more)
- 4 times this year we have lost a quarter by more than 20 points (only Adelaide 1, Brisbane 3 (two of those again us), Port Adelaide 3, Kangaroos 4 have less ore qqual)

- we have the best accuracy in the competition at goal from inside 30 meters (79% goal scoring rate)
- We are 15th in marks, and 14th in contested marks
- we are 3rd in contested ball gets

- we are =4th for inside 50s but =9th for marks inside 50
- despite the ravings of our kick ins, we are 8th for going untouched from kick in to scoring shot
- we have the most scoring shots untouched from centre bounces (2nd in goals), and equal most scoring shots from tap ins (4th in goals)
- we are actually adjuged 12th in the competition from centre clearances (we average 14 a game - equal 2nd most in the competition), but we concede 15 a game - the most in the AFL)
- we are 5th in tackles and 7th in 1 per centers
- we are 15th in handling errors (we make 33 a match), only Freo has more (34 a match).

Any ranking that rates Darcy above Gardiner is a bit stuffed if you ask me.

they obviousbly need to tweak their system to evaluate the effectiveness of hit outs.

They aren't official stats so it doesn't mean anything. It's no more legitimate than if I started up my own site tomorrow and started recording stats.

I would actually takes these ahead of the afl stats any day of the week.

Why is that?

because the AFL, and in particularly its technology department, seem to be going downhill.

The only stats the currently releaser are goals, marks, kicks, disposals...............I'm sure that must've taken them some time to get together.

And when i go hunting for those more basic stats, I usually use Pauls stats site.

The AFL prowess site actually gives a person some sought of statistical backup and a bit of insight into various things, that have some little of interpretation and footy knowledge required to assess.

I'm sure the owner of that site would have been proud of a shameless plug like this.

and take it for whats its worth, but I'd take more notice of any paritcular stat you told me than what the afl supplied to me sera....

but it's a fact, Paul's stat site is much better than what the AFL can provide. It only gives the basic stats themselves, but it actually gives more than what the AFL provide themselves.

Does the website actually explain what a playmaker stat is or a handling error stat? Or do they just leave you in the dark, it would be nice if the website explained each stat, well not every stat, just the different ones like the two above. We obviously dont need an explanation for a kick, mark, etc...

handling error it does - it said it is a dropped uncontested mark, fumble at ground level and something else (can't remember).

playmaker stat it didn't explain, but logic tells you its got something to do with the amount of goals a player is involved in (i think)

When I read the playmaker stat it explained it.

It said it is the player who has the FIRST possession which starts an unbroken chain of possessions (ie, other team not touching it) and that chain of possessions resulting in a scoring shot.
