Clarkson had this to say after the game:
"It was certainly an improvement over last week but we are still not performing at the level we know we can be at. Again at times we missed shots that we need to be kicking if we want to feature in September action. That said I was very pleased with a lot of our guys games today, in particular Whitecross as the sub. We need our sub to be able to provide a big impact and he has done that two weeks in a row."

When asked about Chance Bateman's Injury he said this;
"It's a very minor thing that occurred right around the time we were preparing for Whitecross to come on as the sub, so we decide we might just be precautionary and give Chance a rest. He'll no doubt play next weeks game."

Alistair Clarkson had this to say on Chance Bateman's foot injury;
"Unfortunately Chance's injury was a little bit worse than we first expected and he will have to sit out for just the one game. On the up side, this gives Clinton Young a chance to prove himself again."

1st Quarter-
Score: Hawthorn- 3.4-22 Richmond- 1.0-6
Summary: Hawthorn kicked away to an early lead as rain began to pour down. The bigger, more experienced bodies of Hawthorn were able to dominate the quarter giving Franklin multiple shots on goal. Lance Franklin had 4 touches while Matt Suckling had 3 to quarter time.

2nd Quarter-
Score: Hawthorn- 6.6-42 Richmond- 2.3-15
Summary: Hawthorn were standing up in slippery conditions and were looking quite the skilled side. Franklin, Young and Mitchell were all getting their hands on the ball, with the highlight of the quarter being Buddy's "don't argue" and goal from 40m out.

3rd Quarter-
Score: Hawthorn- 8.7-55 Richmond- 3.4-22
Summary: Hawthorn continued to make a young Richmond side look second rate, smashing them in contested possessions. Sam Mitchell continued to play his best game for the season with 8 touches at the final break.

4th Quarter-
Score: Hawthorn- 11.10-76 Richmond- 4.4-28
Summary:Hawthorn were hard enough and tough enough for long enough against an inexperienced Richmond side. Their attack on the ball could not be questioned. Clinton Young justified his spot in the side racking up a lot of the ball and setting up scores.

Clarkson said this after the game;
"I think the most pleasing thing tonight was that our defence was rock solid. When the ball went into the Tigers forward line we would deny them a mark and then make sure once the ball hit the ground that we saw it over the boundary or were able to rebound the ball"

Clarkson was rapt in Clinton Young's game;
"Youngy hadn't been into the side yet this year and got his chance through an injury to Bateman and took his chance. I loved his run and spread tonight and he was really able to break the game open in what was a scrappy affair. This is what we want from the Hawthorn Football Club. We want depth and want to have so many players playing well that we have trouble picking the side."

"I know we were playing last years wooden spoon side but to keep any team to only 12 inside 50's for a game is a good effort, especially in the wet were scrappy kicks can easily get the ball forward. I believe our attack and intensity at the contest is where it needs to be now, but we will find out next week when we play Geelong."
