Give me Meesen if he can run around a bit and win a few more possessions, even if it means a few less "HO"s on the stats sheet.

I was arguing that Meesen needs to EARN a game, not get one simply because Jamar isn't up to it.

I don't think Meesen needs to earn a game, I think the fact Jamar is so god damn awful is reason enough to give someone else a shot. Who knows, maybe all Meesen needs is the confidence to be played at a senior level to really hit his straps.

The problem is that we don't have anyone to replace him with since PJ is injured and Meesen not setting the world on fire yet. White is also getting older and can do less of the centre bounces.

Games?
Even though we're going poorly I would be shocked to think the team would be going out and not aiming to win games.

I can understand playing the kids but you select guys who have earned their spot. Yze was a bit stiff this week because he was very good for Sandy last week, but Bailey probably wants him to string some good games together.

If you don't pick players based on selection you set a very poor example to the rest of the playing group.

Flip-side - If you continue to play the players that continually fail, what example does that set? Our most experienced side could not win a game right now, we are that far off the pace it honestly doesn't matter. In that sense, we have nothing to lose. We will continue to lose games regardless

I'd rather see our youngest side possible go 0-22 and be better poised for 2009 than play some of the older heads, finish 5-17 and face another couple of years with 4-5 win seasons as we bring the younger players through.

Get them in there now and shorten the turnaround period.

The thing is finding a balance. There is no point fielding a side full of 17-21 year olds because who are they going to for guidance. Thats why we are so far behind, due to our sub-par recruiting over 1998-2003. These are the players who should by all means be the core of our club, instead we have a gaping hole of players in the 23-27 age bracket. Miller, Rivers, Carrol and Jamar fit into that category and not too many others.

Play our senior players if it will be beneficial to the younger ones. Bruce, Green, White, Robbo, Neitz all need to be inspiring them, not with how many possesions they amass or how many goals they kick, but with their intensity and passion for the club. We all talk about Neitz's form being sub-par, but you wait and see what he will bring out of the players on the day he plays his last match. I hope to god its against a team that we are half a chance of beating, because the man deserves to go out on a high.

On the subject of Jamar, has now been relegated to permanent 3rd string, and is really only kept for insurance. Wish he would take more than one of those token hangers in the goal square per game. Semms to be coaches like the thought of starting 15minutes in the forward line, take a grab, convert, then bench and ruck duties for the rest of the game. He's a big boy, goal square play him one out and just get it to him. Worst case ball falls and wona or davey mop up. Won't happen, and I like most are hanging for PJ's return. No room for Jamar with Natanui either.

I agree. Jamar suffers the same phobia that "Jack" Nicholson did in that he is terrified of possessing the ball and looks for the easiest quickest way out, whether that is good for the team or not. As an early draft pick at least someone, sometime has seen Meeson's potential as a footballer.

So can you or anyone tell me what Jamar has done to earn a game?

He's in the side purely because PJ got injured, it could just of easily have been Meesen but melbourne went with the safe option, i mean the difference been Jamar & Meesen could've cost us a game.

While you're telling what Jamar did to warrant selection, why not enlighten me as to which game he was the difference in?

Its a different situation with ruckman as we only have 4 & even more so when 1 of your best 2 get injured. And again, I'm not aware of what Jamar has done more then Meesan to deserve inclusion.

I don't think that this thread was started to say Meesen should be played at all costs, it was started to say why are we playing the Russian ahead of Meesen when either one will be dropped as soon as our first choice back-up ruckman is available.

Jamar's not setting the world on fire, what do we have to lose by giving Meesen a week or 2 before PJ gets back?
