well what can people tell me about them??? they're a bit before my time... i've got 'ol man river' which is a quality song, but wouldn't mind hearing more of their stuff... my old boss loved em, they were his favourite band...

the reason i ask is that they're releasing a DVD in june, and touring shortly after... i was thinkin of goin 2 see em... what do u think?

I cracked up a couple of week's ago when they played 'Greg! The Stop Sign' on Triple J. Hadn't heard it for aggggges! Another good one is Whatareya if you're starting to get into Tism

First saw TISM on Rage in about '85 or so, when they released the video clip for

"Defaecate on my face" (poo on my face)

My mate and I looked at the band name,

This Is Serious Mum, and the song title, and ****ed ourselves laughing for about 1/2 an hour.

Great Band :)

Lead singer Ron Hitler Barassi is a cack :D

TISM performed Defecate in a low bidget movie called Holidays on the River Yarra. The identities of the members are meant to be a secret (well, sort of), but when they played on John Safran's Music Jamboree they listed their real names in the credits.

What about "What are yaah..yob or wa n k e r!

Favourite line "Whose your biggest hero James Hird or James Joyce". Do yourself a favour and get the CDs -

what about "Homeboys are Di c k heads!" - Classic

Great Truckin Songs of the Rennaisance is good. The song titles are always clever and good value.

Seen them live at the BDO and at the Evelyn (hotel, Fitzroy) and both times they put in a great performance. Dancers, cue cards, crowd participation, lots of fun.

It's Oibley, It's Doibley, It's Roibley.

Absolutley love TISM. Got most of their albums. Have yet to see them live, but am shifting to Melbourne at the end of the year, so will hopefully finally see them.

Love their song, 'what are ya, a yobbo or a w-nker', or ' your only 5 yards from a f-ckwitt'.

Just looked at their tour dates, and no Perth leg!!!

wOOdy - i think that from the responses you have received you would do yourself a huge disservice by not checking them out. They are awesome and the crowd always gets right into it.

First saw TISM at a lunchtime gig at Melb Uni in 1986, and was transfixed by these 7 men in balaclavas throwing red roses onto the clipboard carriers walking past ... hilarious.

Since that day, I've managed to see them played upward of 50 times, anywhere from "secret" gigs in Brisbane and Geelong, to large stage productions at the BDO.

But my undoubted highlight of the band live sets was a gig at the Prince of Wales in 1987 when I was accompanied by a mate of mine whose father happened to be quite a prominent Australian. We and our mutual friends watched on in amazement as Ron Hitler-Barassi set fire to an effigy of my friend's very well-known father ....

Priceless.

Sheez woody ... you put the pressure on. Let's just say that this same "prominent Australian" was also quite a prominent football ... err ... personality until quite recently.

I remember listening to a TISM interview on MMM in the late 80's, when Molly used to do morning radio. TISM agreed to do the interview, but only on their own terms. Sure enough, the entire interview was drowned out by the sound of a chainsaw in the studio ... the only really "classic rock" moment that that station could ever truly claim ...

Around about the same time, a mate of mine was working for a Melbourne street mag and was booked to interview the TISM guys. The effectively kidnapped him fom the rendezvous and delivered him to a freezing meat locker, where they alllowed the actual interview to last as long as my mate could handle the negative degree temperature of the freezer. Of course, the TISM guys had come prepared, decked out in full Arctic clothing for the interview.

And another media commitment of TISM, again around the same moment in rock history, had to be carried out on a local football ground, via two styrofoam cups and a 100 metre long piece of string joining the cups !
