So I'm looking at buying myself a new tradie car later this year

I'm against getting a loan for a car, I'm mainly looking at utes, cause well i'm a tradie and its handy to have all my crap with me so it'll probably be a early xmas present

Preferably dual/king Cab, diesel petrol, 4x4 preferred but not essential, preferably mannual but not essential

Looking at "old" but no older than probably 06, priced within 10k-25k. Already have a few in mind, asking for opinion on cars bought/cars at prices i should't ignore

Thanks for your help in advance

Hilux with a service history. doesn't matter how old it is either. As long as there's a service history.

If you don't need 4wd, a trayback falcon is cheap, nice to drive, spacious cab and practical with the tray.

I assume you will be towing a trailer all the time? If so then you need to take into consideration of the towing capacity.

Wouldn't go 4WD unless you really want or need it, just makes everything more expensive.

Think about a well kitted out van too - much better security than a ute. Tool theft is ****in everywhere.

Would have metal lockbox's in the back regardless that are locked up. Hard cover isn't off the cards either

Considering 4x4, more so for the fun factor

how much more expensive is it, other than more fuel and more expensive services

Sometimes but not all the time, so not a huge issue as long as it can tow the family boat

If I don't go 4x4, what i'm undecided if i'll go 2WD, AWD or 4WD at this point, I'll highly consider a trayback falcon

You can get a brand new triton dual cab diesel 4wd for 28k. That's if you can stretch a bit further.

there is no real rush on the decision, so thanks will give it a look

I'd avoid Holdens and Fords. Every tradie I know as been there and they all go back to the jap utes. Any work ute will take a battering every day and the local ones just fall apart. The engines keep going but everything around them falls apart. They just don't seem well put together.

Good weekend utes, the sports versions look great, but for day to day I'm not so sure.

I used to have a bf mk 2 falcon trayback, was a great car, had no issues with it for the 3 years I owned it. Ended up trading it in on a landcruiser.

I drive a triton ute for work, it's a real piece of shit

Did drive a single cab Hilux 4x4 and it was a dream, but obv more expensive

Don't think a tool box will keep your tools safe. If you street park it or driveway park it someone is gonna get in there.

I would really have minimal tools though compared to some other trades, looking at a King cab Hilux at this stage

Going to keep cable drums in the tray?
probably not due to the company i work with

If so i'd go hard cap with a lock even

Is there such a thing as a king cab Hilux?

Thinking go king cab, allows me to go more recent car and save on price but also be able to have stuff locked inside the ute/take people in "worst case scenario"
