I hear he's been inducted into the St Kilda Hall of Fame. With the man's failing health it will be a fitting tribute and hopefully he can be there.

He was a prolific kick winner and excelled in the heavier conditions where his strength and persistence won through.

1966-74 127 games 73 goals. (b: 2 Jul 1946 185 cms 85.5 kgs). Recruited from Frankston as a full-forward Payze's erratic kicking was a worry for the Saints. He made his debut coming off the bench early in the 1966 second semi and did well with three goals. He was also on the bench in the flag side two weeks later. His career looked set for the scrap heap after only a dozen games in four and a half years but he found a new niche as a ruck rover. He was a prolific kick winner and excelled in the heavier conditions where his strength and persistence won through. He hit his peak in 1972 and his performances for the state side earned All-Australian selection. After leaving St Kilda he coached Dandenong in the VFA then in later years he returned as chairman of selectors for the Saints and eventually rose to be president of the Club.
