Hey, what on earth has happened to this bloke?? In his debut year at Tigerland in 2005 he played just about every game and played very well in the ruck, I thought anyway. And this year, in 2006, he barely played a game. What's happened?? Is he gonna be on track for 2007?? Cause I reckon you guys will really need him with the retirement of Stafford. Simmonds will need backup in the ruck, and Knobel is just the bloke to do it!!

now that stafford is gone he will have a big part to play in 2007.

It is good to see some positive posts about Trent and I hope you are right but I'm afraid I still have some reservations about his skills, marking ability and footy smarts.

He will be much more value than what Stafford provided this year....took his money and run...played every game with his mind on round 22!!

Hopefully he will have an injury free year and will be a good backup option.

Hes your basic tap ruckman, but hes good at what he does. Absolutely no ability with the ball however.
The good thing is Simmo takes over that role while Knobel provides valuable rest for Simmo, and in the games that Knobel played in this year Simmo benifited massivly from the rest.

Regardless of what the nuff nuffs at stkilda say, the fact remains when knobel was in the ruck for them they were literally unstoppable. He gave them first use of the ball.

Agreed he's crap around the ground but will be handy for us in the middle next year.

Yeah but is it worth wasting a bench position on him. I just wish it was the other way around, knobel our #1 ruckmen with simmonds actually being good at a key position. But unfortunately simmonds is a ruckman first, and that means a one dimensional player like knobel is pretty useless. Would much rather patto as #2, at least he looks alright up forward.

Agree. Patto has very good disposal as well.

That's obviously where we're trying to go with Simmonds and Pattison being mobile and able to play around the ground. If Pattison comes on the way they hope then Knobel becomes more and more redundant.

most of us, including match committee haven't forgiven him for the god awful game he played against Freo...wouldn't surprise to see him delisted ...my guess is he's uncontracted

He was injured most of the year. If we cut him, our ruck division consists of Simmonds, Pattison, Hall and Graham (rookie).

Knobel - a ruckman, nothing else. And by saying ruckman, I don't mean a follower or a ruck-rover type like Goodes, he's a tap ruckman - full stop.
Tap ruckman are a dying breed like the goalsquare gorilla full forward.

dont worry guys, there is always someone injured :s

Simmonds loves the work, runs all over the ground, pushes forward and gets back. Pattison is being groomed for a permanent role forward and ruck but we can't go into a season relying on those two alone. Knobel is an honest tap ruckman, sort of Matty Clarke type, who gives midfielders first use and makes sure the opposition ruck doesn't dominate in the centre. He doesn't have to get 25 possessions a week to be valuable. He will play a role, maybe at Coburg sometimes, but he's handy to have on the list and will play alongside Simmonds and Patto where suited by ground, opposition, injuries, match ups etc. I thought he took some good grabs in 2004 when getting forward, so he may play a sort of Stafford 2003, goal square role at times to stretch the opposition backline.

knobel is a dud

hopeless with the footy and is lucky to still be at richmond due to the shocking backup for simmo

dont care how many taps you get when you have a dinosaur ruckman you are playing with 17 men

cox v jolly/doyle etc

laughable
