Injuries didn't help him.
Kid has a go. I wish him well.

I agree he has a go but needs 10-12 kg to match his endeavour otherwise he will be pumbled more often than not.

The free he gave away agaisnt Port in the last game when we should have hit the front but had the goal not allowed was all because of the fact he had to small abody - could not shepherd so he held on and troy taylors goal (which put us in front) was not allowed.

while i agree size has been a problem hence we found it hard to play him where he plays best. i disagree he needs a massive weight gain. imo he was slowly getting there and another 5 to 7 kg with the strength that goes with it will see him go past grigg. being skinny means there is an actual upside. forced to play as a forward when you are a mid means upside.

anyway imo just a shame we could not have kept him for one more yr. and im not having a go at grigg welcome aboard son.

Now we finally have two of the biggest, hardest mids in the AFL who ensure we don't get bullied off the ball in the middle anymore and one more on the way in Martin, it beggars belief that anyone could demonstrate such a complete ignorance of our history by wanting to leave any of them on the sidelines and go back to letting our opposition walk in with the 'bully Richmond and they'll break' mentality every week.

I agree with this.

There is room for all three in the best 22, even if there might not always be room for three in the best 18.

Typing up a "best 18" based on nominal positions is a fun exercise but does not really reflect how a modern game of football is played.

The group in the centre square is NOT Graham, Martin, Foley plus a centre. It is a rotating group of a ruckman and six or seven onballers. At least one, and preferrably two in that group at any given time should be a big unit.

Personally, I think criticisms of Jackson's and Tuck's disposal skills are exaggerated anyway.

Tucky gets written off every pre-season and by the end of the year he is playing every week.

Until enough players do what he does as good as he does he should be one of the first picked. When that day comes I'm sure hell be the first to step aside.

Wont be this year though.

I have similar thoughts about Jacko and haven't seen enough of Grigg to comment at this stage.

Hi all, got some info that may be of interest to some of you supporters, if it isn't , offends, or is in the wrong spot, please delete. I am far from a computer wiz kid.
Annually, theres a discussion over the coming season and the clubs, it represents about 40 years of involvement in AFL/VFL footy and is attempted to be done so unbiased, it does involve those that have had involvement with more than one club.
It has a bit of a Richmond flavour and generally turns to prolonged discussion over Richmond, some more time this year was set aside. Funny enough it wasn't as controversial as I thought it might have been, with agreeance on most matters.
Posting it here as this thread was actually brought up and thought some of guys might appreciate what could be considered some unbiased feedback.
Heres some of it.

1. How good can Martin be.
Martin - The use of him in 2011 is critical , if he can't develop into a player who can have a bigger affect in the forwardline or off half back, may not ever make it into elite class.
2. Foley - Will have a massive impact, as he carry an injury and still have a impact on the game, don't expect him to play as much as he has in the past in the midfield.
3. Deledio - It was felt that with the full midfield up and running he should and will be played in the midfield, but unlikely to happen this year. Thought he showed an amazing amount of maturity and football brains not previously thought the way he played when moved to half back. His physique and natural ability is better than anyone else in te AFL. Still concerns on his ability to break a tag , especially with his natural talents when he goes forward, although was admitted that he would be extremely dangerous standing in the forward line next to Jack.
4. Cotchin - Where some of the stats from here where brought up , With most surprised that he is ranked in those stats, some way behind others mentioned. not alot of credit was given to the stats.
He could be anything yet could be nothing, unlikely to play a game without being targeted by opposition, potentially the best player on Richmonds list for a long long time , huge queries on his fitness and ability to concentrate, after brain fade when reported. Thought it likely he will be used more in the forwardling to expose taggers .
5. Morton - Last few games saved his skin , could be the barometer, one of the few Richmond have had who can be dangerous as a goal kicking mid.
6. Connors - Not the favourite, quote " plays like Jordan ###### McMahon and is a w***er off the field ".
7. Thurstfield. - Higher rated then by most Richmond supporters and alot of upside if he can learn to play an attacking role, which most thought he could, swingman ? Was sounded out by at least 2 Victorian clubs.
9. The recruiting with Hardwick at helm.
Last year just a pass, with concerns over the recruitment of some many smalls and the punt taken on the two aboriginal boys, Taylor, who some felt could be an absolute gem but expect not to stick around, and Roberts, woefull recruitment. thought good this year, liked the idea of the mature big bloke as it might allow Vickery to develop as another tall forward.
10. Who was the next best recruit last season behind Martin
Most actually felt that if everyone plays the role in 2011 as they did in 2010 , that Astbury will be the better player as he offers so much at both ends, and there was real concerns about Martins ability when not on the ball.
11. Recruitment of Houli and Grigg for Tambling and Collins.
Alot stronger bodies who offered more flexibility, Carlton have a history of picking up the lighter types. Super trades for Richmond.
12. Why has Richmond consistantly had better midfielders and a key forward better than there position on the ladder suggests.
Richmond have gone overboard on midfielders, who have been great midfielders but play either midfield or on the pine/plastic, which has meant that they have gone into games, with not enough tall or small options if one of their match ups dont work or a player has a off day. It is also felt this has also robbed them with the opportunity to consistantly play a developing tall forward.
13. Can Richmond improve in 2011 and when will they challenge.
No hope of challenging a top 4 spot, no surprises but most felt they could challenge the 8 but it would mean they have cut corners in long term development. Should look to challenge top 4 as early as 2012, most likely 2013.
14. Who'll be the most improved in 2011.
Vickery and Thurstfield, felt that it appears they may be tried in different spots and will be the making of them, Taylor as a smoky.
15. Whats a pass mark in 2011.
It was actually felt anything higher than 11th would be a bad result, ' especially the Tiger influenced ', as it would mean they have cut corners again. Whilst a bottom 2 finish would be a kick in the guts the other way.
16. A last one was slipped in and who else but leaping Jack.
Super potential and should go up a gear , most expect him to play higher up the ground as he will get more space especially behind him. Concern was he will be swamped and stagnate if he stays at FF, similarly to he did at the end of the season. Was a good note to finish on as it was agreed by all he is one of the real super personalities in the game and has the bit of spunk and lip about him without going over the top. Then some of the alledged stories started, if he is half as good with the lip as was suggested, you've got one of the best !

Cheers and hope you've enjoyed !

Tuck and Jackson have proven that they are good AFL quality inside mids. Tuck is one of the best at getting his hands on it in the AFL, not a star in use though. Jacko is a great run with player, gets his hands on it, patchy in use. These guys sound like really good 1st team depth players - because they are. It's when they are on the edge of the 1st team that means we have tough ball getters with good disposal. Currently they don't have competition because the guys that should replace them are too young and small. You play the youngsters as inside guys against the hard monsters they'll get crunched and perhaps never develop properly because all they learn is how to avoid getting hurt. Tuck is gone in a couple of years. Jacko may develop into being a quality mid, or may just be depth. But until we have big strong guys to replace them they stay.
this just shows how good Dusty is. He is amazing for his age!

Grigg. Well we put in, supossedly, one of the best scouting set up of other teams and they picked him. And they considered Collins a good swap. Without knowing I would say that means they reckon Grigg is he go. I trust our footy department now, much more than a couple of years ago.

So they all should be in the best 22. As many have said when Tuck and Jacko get overtaken it menas we have a very good midfield. I can't wait for that
