As a cricketer, i never thought i'd say this. But these two umps have got a lot right in this test.

With the referral system going, added pressure, most of their decisions have been A1, bar one or maybe two.

I reckon referrals should be left to the umps, if they are in indecision, then they make the call. They seem pretty trustworthy so far :thumbsu:

Most of the umps get it right most of the time, but in the era where a mistake was permanent the media and fans went overboard.

The symonds nick a few years back being the perfect example, one mistake by an otherwise proven ump and because it turned a match he gets slaughtered.

Now with reviews we see just how bad the players are at judging these things when compared to the umps.

Except for Dar who got it wrong with Hussey twice in as many overs. The bloke is an idiot.

Blind Freddy could have seen the first that he gave out was outside leg and **** knows what he was looking at the second time given Hussey got nowhere near it and it was hardly a wood sound with the double noise.

Useless.

Hussy's was a bad one, hit front pad, then back pad. Plumb. Only bad decision he has made yea ??

I think the referral system works well. Instead of being pissed off and muttering about the umpire in slips, refer the decision (if you genuinely think it was out).

On the contrary. I think the referral system works well only if in the umpires hands. They have proved this with their good decisions. Having it in the players hands makes a mockery out of our great Test Cricket Game !!

with it hitting both pads with a double noise, the umpire may have got confused.

the first one where he gave huss out, was only fractionally incorrect and in the era before technical advances a batsman might feel hard done by, but move along if given without too much bitterness.

Good post. Then as an old school i say leave it up to the Ump. Afterall Cricket is a human game. Especially Test Cricket. But Technology is leaving them more and more nervous. Bit like our AFL Umpires.

How much can you Fu%^k with a game before you stuff it up ??

I've watched three days of enthralling cricket, and felt so sorry for our umps, like they aren't trying their hardest. It's their job.

Watching it live on tv I thought the second one had bat in it

I didn't see the Hussey one when it first happened. But the channel 9 commentators seemed to all agree they thought he hit when it happened live. The double noise was very obvious and very clear. Sure, in retrospect the two noises were very thud-like and therefore both pad. But who knows what it sounded like on the ground.

It was the wrong decision, but IMHO, excusable.

Of course, that didn't stop Tony Greig squealing like a stuck pig. He barely stopped short of calling the Australian's cheats he was that incensed. When Packer offered Greig "a job for life", I had hoped it was for the duration of Packer's life. Not Greigy's. :(
